So I go to a fairly large public school, and at the end of last school year (the last month or so) I felt God calling me to start a bible club at my school. Someone in my youth group actually went and gave a mini speach to the youth group about how he started one. I kind of ignored it because it was the end of the school year and i decided I couldnt do anything yet anyway, but i started thinking about it again, and about a week ago I talked to my youth pastor about wanting to start one in my school. He connected me with a teacher at my school who goes to my church, and he agreed to be the faculty sponsor for the club (its a requirement to start any club at my school) and I talked to a few people in my youth group and one girl who doesnt go to my church but I know is in love with God, and they all agreed to help, and it seems to be coming together.
Im excited. I mean I can just imagine God doing all of these awesome things in my school, and im really excited about reaching the school for God. It could be awesome. Im really excited for the possibility that God can work in my school. Even if we only lead one person to Christ, its still an accomplishment. But then im nervous, because then what if it doesn't work that way. I mean if people dont show up and it falls apart, ill be really disapointed. I have no clue how to run a bible study, other than the packet that my youth pastor gave me about it, but thats it. I guess im feeling a little bit over my head now that im thinking about all of the work that goes into it. Im also nervous about how my school will react to it. Alot of my friends arent christians, and I have no clue how what they will think of it, or if it will affect our relationships in anyway. I dont know. Im really not sure what to expect. I dont know what the general student body of my school will think of it either. Anywho, I was wondering if anyone on here has started a bible club or similar at their school or even been in one, and if they had any advice or resources or ideas for me. |

I went to one a few times during my freshman year, it was before school so I stopped because I have sports and I needed my sleep. I liked it though, but do be aware that you will get various faiths that have slightly different beliefs. I know there were catholics, baptists, protestants, etc. in mine and you just have to know that everybody has slightly different beliefs. At ours our teacher that led it would ask somebody to open in prayer, he would give a brief presentation on something he read that week that he found interesting, then ask if anybody had prayer requests, then he would close in prayer. He also held meetings and events outside of school. It was about a half hour long. He stopped doing it last year I think when they made people pay for clubs partly because you had to pay and attendance was dropping. Recently some new girl started a new one which I don't go to because it is after school and I have practice then. If you are going to advertise it try not to advertise it as being super religious, just say you are holding a bible study or something, if kids are going to go, they will go, they don't need any corny sayings to get them to come.

Hey guys, I just wanted to update everyone that the bible club was started, and its doing well. Im really excited about it. So far we have about 20 students, and we havent started advertising it yet, other than through word of mouth (though we plan to in about two weeks, once everything is running a bit smoother). The vast majority of the people go to my church, though there are a handful who go to other churches, and we are hoping for more people once we start advertising. Its already making an impact. We have one girl who is a bit uncomfortable with religion. She says she used to believe more, but things have happened in her life and now she isnt as sure. But she has been listening and interested in it, and im really glad that she got invited and has actually been coming.
I was nominated and voted president of it, which both surprised and overwhelmed me. I honestly didn't think I deserved it, and i was nervous about the responsibilities that has given me. I have to write the bible studies for each week, run the meetings, and plan the events. But it has challenged me to grow deeper in my relationship with God, partially because I cant lead them if i havent been talking to God and actively in a relationship with him all week, and partially because the work that goes into planning a bible study teaches me alot about God myself. And I have alot of support from everyone in the group. We have been learning as we go, about how to run it, and ive already learned alot about time management and the length of the studies we can realistically do. Alot of people in the group dont have bibles, so me and a couple of other people are thinking of putting a fund together to purchase some so that everyone can have one. And we are also talking about doing some outreaches and volunteering, and the possiblity of having someone come in as a guest-speaker. So yeah. Im really really excited about the group and how it is coming along. |

Nice!
In my school there is a Bible club each Wednesday, since we get out at 12:00 p.m. It's real nice, sometimes there is someone with a guitar, we sing and pray and talk about the Bible and our experiences. Bad thing is that most of the time people don't talk! They are to shy! But it's real nice to spend time for God! |

im starting a prayer group/bible study group at my school this week and im really nervous.
i go to a public school in south Australia and we are one of the only public schools in SA that doesnt have a Chaplin at our school. this makes it really hard for us to have a group meeting because the school wont let us. we ahve asked if we can reserve a room for our meeting but the school wont let us so we ahve decided that as a powerful message of our love for christ no matter what we will sit in the middle of a quadrangle. there are no teachers at our school which are willing to support us not even the ones we know are christain. im really nervous because i know we will get laughed at by other people but not just that as the leader im worried that others in the group will expect too much of me. i dont want the group to fall apart and it not work. i dont know what kind of message to bring to the group and yeah im just nervous. Starting something or showing Gods love strongly at my school has been on my heart for a while and when i was short listed as a school captain candidate i was thinking that this was my calling. i didnt get school captain and was devestaded. i was convinced that God didnt want to do anything with me in my school and wanted to move to the local christian school where all my friends go. but something wasnt sitting right in my heart and deep down i knew God still wantd me to be at my school and to start the prayer group and bible study. ive talked through starting the group with my youth pastor and he is really excited bout the things which can happen through what im doing, and is gonig to see if the school will let him come and sit in on it... im not confident that they will let him but it would be cool if he id. but then i would be even more nervous coz he is knowledgeable and im just 17... anyway... just thought i would share somethought on me starting the group and how im feeling. please pray for my group and i will let you know how it goes. |
