I worry that our churches are getting more and more into the entertainment business. We are taking steps farther and farther away from God's letter to us it seems. I love CCM, but the music in the church should not take preeminence over teaching from the Word.
The most important thing for a church is too follow the great commision: Go and disciple to all the world. (huge paraphrase!) If a church isn't discipling, is it doing it's job?

I'm not saying that hymns are worshipful and CCM isn't. I'm saying that whenever I go to a church that plays CCM, they seem to be more focused on the music than the words. It's more like a rock concert than church. There's nothing wrong with rock concerts, you can worship at a rock concert. BUT, concerts are more about the music and the band. Church services shouldn't be all about singing to God. Well... I'm bad at explaining what I'm trying to say but oh well.

So, in other words you think that even if CCM is worshiping God, it should not be allowed in the Church. I agree with that. There's nothing wrong with CCM in my opinion if it's scriptural, like Casting Crowns, a lot of their songs are like straight from the Word of God, but it's not right for the rock guitars to be playing while in Church service. If they were, everybody wouldn't hear the message they'd hear guitars.

I think CCM is a good thing. Some of the old hymns and songs are hard to sing and pronounce. At least Contemporary Music is easier and a group can sing the songs.

QUOTE (Levi4Christ @ Oct 27 2004, 05:00 PM)
In my opinion, (i know a lot of people will most likely disagree) worship is worship, its not about us, its about God, and in his eyes, its all good. I personally wouldnt mind listening to hardcore in church, if it glorified God.

Well, just b/c it says Christian doesn't mean it's true. I think that hard core is over the top. Again, this is soley my opinion.
Hard core sounds too much like the world. It doesn't matter what the lyrics say. If you say you are a Christian and then you play that music in your car, your friend won't listen to the words (at first, at least)--they'll listen to the beat and the way it's written. They might think it something else and condemn you for it. Like I said earlier, we are IN the world and yet we aren't supposed to be OF it.
(I'm not attacking you, btw...)

They are expected. And, they are played softer and more melodious. I love a good bass and acoustic guitar. I find nothing wrong w/them in a church. A steel or rock guitar...well, most people would see that and go to accusations. If there is a standard higher than the other, always go to the higher. You'll offend less and everyone is happier. Im just going to get out of this, my opinions differ too much. Its all a matter of preference in this debate.

Though,

this bugs me. I dont go by what someone says, i go by their message. Hardcore lyrics don't come right out and say anything, you actually have to think about the lyrics. So please, listen to some songs, or read the lyrics before you judge the music.

I think that we can assert then that music in the church must be bringing glory to God. That is the whole focus. If this music is not, then we have a problem.

I am not in favor of clapping for singers after they sing. Now this might seem a little weird to you, but what is the clapping signifying? That you thought the artist did a good job. Don't lie. Have you ever clapped your hands for Jesus? No that would be a little weird. You say "Amen, Hallejuah, Praise God!, My Redeemer lives!"
That kind of stuff.

No you don't dont kid us all man. Clapping for Jesus would be weird, and kinda repulsive. Do you think He would want us to slap our sweaty gimmlets together for His honor? I wouldn't think so. I think He would rather have us bow down in adoration before his feet. Since clapping shows no respect or honor to any one. Just that we think he did a good job.

I don't see a problem with clapping for artists. It is an expression we use to show that we are pleased with someones performance

whats wrong with clapping for Jesus? I do not really think God chooses which type of praise he likes as long as you are giving him your all.

God does NOT care what you do to worship him, as long as you do something. You could be driving down the road and just start shouting Jesus. I've done it, its really quite fun.
