Not exactly too healthy. You need meat, just not the processed stuff you get at MickyD's. I would try something like this:
Eat Hneybunches of oats in the morning( very good for you, especially if you get the ones with fruit in them). For lunch, maybe some fruit and veggies, and for supper sometihng with meat in it. Bread sint neccesary as your getting the same grains from your cereal.

You want to make sure that your diet makes sense and stays consistant. In order to lose weight(properly) you need to eat a little bit less, and you need to workout.
YOu also want to try to count your calories. And create a day(once a week) where you allow yourself to cheat on your diet with anything you want to eat(but not too much) so you stay sane. and you want to gradually enter your diet so your body can get used to it rather than suddenly you put yourself in an unhealthy diet as you presented to us.

You actually want to eat about 5-6 meals a day, but consisting of health foods. the more times you eat, the less hungry you'll be. the portions are smaller but it confuses your body by eating in an unexpected part of the day.

If you eat just one meal a day, you'll definately feel tired, and have probably zero energy. Diets are actually supposed to rejuvenate and make you more energetic. Diets are about eating, not about starving yourself.

If you want to know what diet i am on i can share it with you and you could try it as well .. just 'PM' me

QUOTE (dana @ Mar 4 2008, 03:18 PM) *
Drink tons of water.
Most of the time when you are hungry, you are actually just thirsty.
You are supposed to drink at least your body weight divided by two in ounces every day,
but I would suggest more than that, especially if you are trying to lose weight.
Plus, it's just generally healthy to stay hydrated (which 70+% of americans are not).

There are tons of ways to get in cardiovascular exercise. And it's important.
If you don't like jogging, try fast walking, jump roping, or biking.
But when you do, it's good to keep at it for at least 30-45 minutes for weight loss.
After 20 minutes is when you start to burn fat so it's good to go more than that.
Work your way up if you need to.

drinking too much water is actually extremely bad. pace yourself. 8 cups of water a day if you didn't eat. most of your water comes from food anyway.

and yes exercising is the key to losing wieght. cardio of lifting wieghts .. even yoga. But having a proper diet is half the battle. keep that in mind

ok! I've seen too many people in the 'health & nutrition' area create "i need to lose weight" or "i need a good diet" or whatever.

I'm just sick of how many times i have to repeat myself(im sure others have to as well) about this topic.

So if you have something relating to dieting, or just simply losing weight ... this is where you want to be. I'll help you, I'm sure others will too.

You can Share you diets if desired. Or you can share your success stories if you'd like.

(just tired of the clutter)

---------

Now I'm just going to add some notes that are very important to dieting/losing wieght:

1. Never starve yourself or limit how many meals you have
2. Dieting is about EATING less, not NEVER eating
3. IMO, Never go on a Low Carb diet. Carbs gives your brain energy, which we need.
4. You need to exercise whether its lifting weights, cardio, yoga .. things of that nature.
5. Finally, you need to pray about this as well. God can help guide you through temptations that are very unnecessary.

I think you've got the right idea, it just needs a little tweaking (: add some healthy variety as stated and it's good to start your day off with a good sized, healthy meal, and snack and eat small meals throughout the rest of the day, instead of saving your meal for last. There's another topic about losing weight, so you may want to browse through those replies.

You don't need meat. Althogh cutting it out of your diet requires you to find alternate sources for a rather large groop of important neutriants. You do need plenty of protien and iron witch is pletifull in most meats, but this can also be aquired from a diet heavy on nuts and green leafy vegitables. Most of all, your diet needs veriety. And simply changeing your diet is not enough to lose weight. Physical activity is also verry important.

The healthiest way to lose weigh is to set a time when you stop eating ( i try to stop at 6 p.m). If you eat late, especially something heavy like meat, it will stay in your stomach all night, and mess up your metabolism. Night is the time when your digestive system is suppossed to clean itself. I know it might be hard at first, but try going to sleep on an empty stomach. What i try to do when i am hungry at night is think about what i am going to have for breakfast. It totally works. For breakfast i have kashi lean cereal. It is all natural, high in fiber and protein, and low in fat in calories. I also eat a banana every morning. This kind of breakfast keeps me full for a while. During the day, though, don't starve yourself. Eat if you are hungry. Just try not to eat junk food. I always drink tea after meals. It feels good and helps the food digest. Oh, and very important: do not use splenda or any other kind of artificial sweetner because it is a bunch of chemicals that only mess up your body's chemical balance. Try adding honey or brown sugar to your tea of cofee. Hope this helps.

The key is the food pyrimid. Make sure you are getting the right amount of things in your body still. Fruit every day wont be enough. Also you don't want to drop the pounds to fast...that is unhealthy...slowly loose the weight. 5 lbs a month is a good rate.

Like thesilent said, Fruits are really good for you, but you need nutrition from other foods, too. You are on the right track with eating healthy stuff, though! You need grains and things. Grazing is better than eating three big meals each day. Having a little snack every once in a while is good.

I do not agree with the food pyramid provided us acording to our current government's recearch (especially sense the recearch is actually funded and carryed out by the dary industry). I think the mediteranian food pyramid would be much more acurate. *shown below*

I have to admit, Jem, that one does seem to make an awful lot of sense to me. How'd you find it?

^What he said. tongue.gif I went from 185 to 140 in three months myself...but I did it by working out too much (1-2 hours of situps/pushups/wall sits every night+skateboarding everywhere I went) and living on one cup o' noodles and one box of Kraft macaroni & cheese with no butter or milk a day. Given, I'm still here today (at 5'4", 135-140 pounds, a 26-inch waist, 6% bodyfat, and a 6-pack, no less), but I've had a few years to tone.
Be healthy. If you wanna lose weight, do it gradually.

The mediteranian food pyramid, I had that recomended to me (actualy, the entire class) by one of my anatomy teachers. He also happened to be the director of the school's anatomy department. He taught me an awfull lot, althogh his class was one of the hardest I had ever taken due to his higher standards.

^On the same subject, he also mentioned another diet along with it. He called this one "The Okenawa(sp) Project". I have not done any personal research on this one thogh. So all I can give you is the name.

I do remember thogh(sp) that he said it was based on some of the same reasoning as the mediteranian food pyramid.

Yeah, Topspin. You do NOT have to worry about loseing weght. Quite the oposite I would say. (thogh I can not say that with 100% certanty sense I do not know your height and body build as well.)

Rather than cuting your protions and such, you should start eating more raw foods and a lot of protien. You should aso start some serious physical activity and build some muscle mass, as well as some high impace exercizes such as running to build on your bone structure.

Would you say that you were anerixic? Or was it just a crazy diet? I'm glad to hear you're ok.

I wanted to know what it was like for people with anerixia (bad idea) and I didnt eat anything all day. I had such a throbbing head ache and decided I will eat when I'm hungry from that point on. And it works, it you just do what your body tells you to you'll be better off.

That does sound like anorexia; I'm glad you're okay now. To lose weight you need to eat healthier food and excercise more, not stop eating. Good luck!
