I'm putting the same options in for public school, private school, and private Christian school to see where they compare. I'm really curious. Please read the poll carefully. If you attend a Christian school and have never experienced a public school, don't answer in the public school section and vice versa.
I went to a public school up through sixth grade. I had awesome opportunities there because of the gifted program in my area, and I got to learn at a more accelerated rate. However my classmates didn't share my morals, and it was tough to be a good example partially because well, i was that young. I didn't fit in very well, I guess, and there was a great focus on achievement and not so much on moral values. In seventh grade, I transferred to a nearby private, Christian school where moral values and Biblical truths were taught, however the academics weren't as challenging, and because I was smart, i was 'weird'.... hahaha. Currently I'm a senior at an Adventist academy. The campus is beautiful, and I love my school and wouldn't trade it for anything. Even though the academics aren't the hardest they are still challenging enough to keep me on my toes. I love the atmosphere most of all, because almost everyone is comfortable with talking about God, the Bible, and presenting their opinions. Granted, since we're such a small school (300 some kids) gossip spreads like wildfire. I guess I am curious: what kind of school do you go to (private, public)? What do you like about it, what do you wish was different? Sorry, homeschoolers for excluding you but what I'm trying to determine are the |

I went to a public school. Out of that list, I didn't think anything should be different so I just chose 'other' (and for the other two questions). Honestly, I was really privileged with my school. There was hardly any bullying, everyone was pretty friendly towards each other, the teachers were nice, it was a nice modern tidy building and the teaching was excellent. My school was/is frequently in the top ten in the country, including being awarded the best physics department...

I go to public school, and quite honestly I can't think of much I would change about it. Great people, I don't feel at all pressured, there are tons of electives, good quality education. I put hallway condition just because it does tend to get really crowded at certain parts of the school.

I attend a private Christian (Catholic) school. If I could change one thing it would be the Theology department. Mindless, unsubstantial fluff for the most part. Except I do enjoy the World Religions course I'm taking right now.
Otherwise I'm glad I go here. Most of my teachers are qualified and accessible and the coursework is challenging. Maybe a bit too much actually. Junior year is hard. |

I've been to all three throughout the course of my education and I find that I liked Christian & Catholic schools the best.
Public school was okay and the only reason I'm glad I experienced it, is because I learned a lot about the real world. I started off at a Christian elementary school but left in 3rd grade because my mom felt I wasn't being challenged. Then, in 4th grade, I went to Catholic school and it was extremely different (obviously lol) and the kids were meaner. It took some time to get adjusted to saying Hail Mary in the morning but I liked it. That school was more strict, had more school functions and I liked that too. We needed up moving to another area during the summer so I entered public schools. Now, that...was scary! I really missed wearing uniforms. The school was huge in comparison to the other schools I had been to and the kids cursed like adults (I don't think this happens at every P.S. though). Ok (don't want to go through my whole life story lol), so I stayed in that district until 10th grade and I had enough of P.S. So my mom and I thought it would be good to see if I could get accepted into a Catholic High School (and I did). Intitally, I loved it! I was back in uniforms, had the discipline/structure I needed, everything was fast paced, so there was no time for drama or conflict (so I thought). Some of the girls in Catholic school are a whole new breed of drama queen. SERIOUSLY. I had never been so enveloped in drama during school hours as I did while I attended that school. Still managed to get greater grades than I did at PS but I was absent from school a lot (not because I was afraid of getting into fights but I was very tired of dealing with drama and I was so tired, that some days, I went to school late. That equals detention so there was more stress). So, overall, I would have to pick Catholic school. It gave me the structure and education I needed. Though I went through so much, it pales in comparison to the grades I earned. I say, everything was worth it as I looked at my Regents scores and report card This post has been edited by Krystal: Oct 18 2009, 10:06 PM |

I go to a Private Catholic girls school and it's excellent there. I don't really think I would change much although there are a couple of snobs that gossip which is typical at an all-girls private school.

i started off in a public high school, and i didnt like it at all, so i changed to a private christian school.
i quite like it here. but sometimes the whole "group/clique" thing can get ridiculous, even for a christian school. sometimes i dont feel like theres anyone i can honestly relate to completely, and i'm just torn between all these "groups". i still love being able to pray, study the bible and talk about our faith freely during the school day, though |
