Wednesday September 24, 2009

Fell asleep in Church History today, something about the professor's voice just made me fall asleep. And by fall asleep, I mean I slept for 20 minutes of a 50 minute class.

There is something about Math that you should not do when you do not have a lot of sleep.... today I had to be my math professor's pet and help people out because I was done with the homework and since I have not gotten a lot of sleep it made helping with math a whole lot harder.

Thursday, September 24, 2009.

I have a rough draft of an essay due tomorrow that I haven't started on.
A research in communication exam is less than a week away.
I have a team meeting Monday night, and should have a slide put together for my team.
The pressure is on, and I currently feel 0% motivated. I suspect it doesn't even have anything to do with procrastination...

Nice, light day. Typed up a one page paper an hour before it was due, did awesome in Greek translating, and all I have left in terms of classes is wind ensemble (YAY I GET TO PLAY THE TENOR) I love wind ensemble because I get to play the tenor. haha.

Then I'm staying on campus until really late because it's useless to go home after wind ensemble if I want to watch the RhettandLinKast and watch the Creme Tangerine (Beatles tribute band) concert tonight.

I punched my Spanish exam in the face. Even so, I'm slightly disappointed in myself. I know I can do better in all of my studies.

Oh, and the Russian wore green. He has blue eyes. It went well.

I think I'm adjusting better each day. God is good. smile.gif

On another note, I'm excited for my Dietary Assessment Assignment. It's going to be tedious when it comes to how detailed it is, but it's just so interesting. Hopefully I know enough recipes to cook for myself for three days, haha.

My first day of school. I nearly tripped down the stairs, forgot to leave my bag by the door in the book store, and dropped Humanities. The teacher said "um" every other word the. entire. period. I counted. 396 times. It was bad to the point that I couldn't pay attention in class.

In my Womens History class there are a bunch of 20 year old girls, one old lady, and one guy. I've decided that he is 1) confused, 2) needed a history credit and this was the only one open, or 3) he needed a diversity study class. I really liked this class though, very interesting material and the teacher is nice. What I also like is that there is some variety in this class, not everyone is the same age, I want to admit that my favorite part is that I sit near an old lady, I just think that ROCKS! I hate age segregated classes like in high school.

In religion class we watched a movie where some Campbell guy was talking (he's irritating). This class is going to be hard for me, it is more on the psychology of religion rather than religion itself, it seems that it focused on how religion impacts the mind and comes from a direction that all religions are right, and all are true in themselves; there doesn't seem to be a belief in a universal truth.

I ate a quick lunch on the lawn of the school, which was nice. It was all mossy. I got caught up on a reading I need to do for religion class. It was rather dull, a history of religious thinking in christianity, Judaism and Islam - just a run down of prominent figures and how religious thinking changed over time... and there were no examples of the differences in thoughts, just big words.

Now that i've dropped humanities, I get to go return my $70 text book and I will have a long break in between my 2 classes (11:00-1:30), maybe I'll check out the campus christian thing that goes on at lunch time. The only down side was that humanities was going to be interesting, I just wish I could put up with the teacher. I'm going to be doing some art projects outside of humanities, however, just because while I was in his class I came up with some really great ideas.

Overall I was very confused at first but after walking around some it's coming naturally. Since I only have two classes (I originally had 4 - womens history, religion, humanities and a humanities add-on credit) I anticipate doing well.

I have a test in history today. I haven't studied for it, but I wouldn't even know WHAT to study. My teacher makes no sense and jumps around. None of us really have any clue what he's saying, and that class is incredibly boring. >.<

I've finally hit that wall that seems to pop up in the middle of semesters...school is no longer a new thing and loses its novelty, but I can't quite see the end. sleep.gif Oh well...I'll just have to grin and bear it for a few more weeks...then I'll see the light at the end of the tunnel.

September 28th, 2009. \

As I write this, I'm setting at the desk at work . . . it's 6:33 pm. I work in the Music Resource Library. The role consists of A. Setting around. B. Doing homework. C. Getting on CTF. D. Watching people sign in to use the computer lab next door. and E. FINALLY helping one person a night. Or less. (and F for tonight: arrange the music manuscripts according to call number. >.<)

I skipped breakfast because of my 9:00 class (and getting up to late to get food), but got a ham/egg/cheese croissant after class. I missed lunch and had Beef Ramen in the dorm for dinner because I was too lazy and bored to actually walk to the Caf and get something. They DO have good food . . . but I didn't think any possibility sounded outstanding. No I'm either going to have something from the dorm, or make a Taco Bell run across the street. Taco Bell sounds good--AFTER work.

My friend's car sputtered and died today, but it actually started to work again . . . until it sputtered while coasting into the Shell Station. It's an on-again, off-again thing, and he has no idea what's wrong with it. 90 bucks for a service check, and he's got just over half that in his account.

Lucky for me, I drive an ultra-dependable Ford Crown Victoria. (Knock on wood). Ya gotta love rugged, American, body-on-frame construction!

I have reading for Critical Reasoning tomorrow. Tuesday and Thursday are my light days, but are spread out. They consist of: Logic (Critical Reasoning), Chapel, Drawing 1 (charcoal is fun--and messy!), and Chorale. After that is more homework to catch up for the next day . . . and then I usually get to bed around 1 or 2 the next morning. Will try to get to bed much earlier tonight--like Midnight. Anyway: reading. I like to read--devouring whole works of interesting fiction like so much candy or small morsels . . . but alas, that same voracity does not apply to the mandated drudgery of textbooks--minus w couple on Theology.

On Monday, Wednesday, Friday, I have Theology 216, Sophomore Seminar, and Criminal Justice. A small break from 10:00-11:00, and I get out of class at 1. Chapel is Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 10:00-10:45. Its a pain because I have to carry my books to Chapel.

My Theology 216 professor is VERY cool. He seems like he would be a good actor--we had a really good discussion with Arius the Heretic. The class is supposed to make you think through exactly WHY you believe WHAT you believe. Thankfully, I can answer everything he's put up so far, so I guess that means I received a good background?

I have an Exegetical paper due as my final for Sophomore Seminar class. It's the most boring class I have ever taken, with the most boring READING I have ever had the displeasure of knowing (44 pages on how to look up library sources), but on the plus side, I like the teacher's personality. He makes class interesting, somewhat. People say that once you take BIBL 296 with him, you hate him AND the class, but when you get to classes like BIBL 496, you LOVE him. One thing's for sure: he'll teach you absolutely everything you need to know for writing theological papers . . . and THAT, my dear reader, is invaluable in itself.

My Logic professor is fairly young--hired last year--but he's good at Philosophy. Working on his doctorate. Classes with him tend to be interesting, but less so now because we're studying the basics of critical reasoning--like how to diagram an argument.

My Art professor is a little quirky, but that makes the class interesting. We listen to "A Prairie Home Companion", hosted by Garrison Keillor. Funny, if you listen for it.

A Prairie Home Companion -- Listen Online!

On the bright side, I may get to go to the shooting range sometime this week. My Criminal Justice teacher is pretty cool--former cop, current private investigator, and he lets students keep firearms at his house. Cool Beans. tongue.gif

Chorale . . . hmm . . . tough-as-nails Instructor, but he brings out the best in us! Seriously though, his bark is worse than his bite . . . though he DID embed a music stand into a wall from a kick once . . . . We're singing "The Majesty and Glory of Your Name", a song I've done before, but it has one gloriously low note! --drool-- The rest of the song is jaw-droppingly AMAZING too! Go Youtube it sometime!

Another song we're doing is called: "O Lord God", a Russian Anthem. I'm telling you . . . someone should retranslate it into Russian. It would sound SO much better, but it sounds really good now--and once again, we Bass Singers have GLORIOUSLY LOW notes.

A concert on november 10th: Concert Series with Mark Thallander . . . Pipe Organ, 500-member Choir, Full Orchestra, packed house, 13 songs, tuxes EVERYWHERE . . . you get the idea.

Oh--we got a new printer in this library. Guess the old one gave up the ghost finally. Well, its 7:07, so I need to get down to reading and working.

Oi . . . .

I do a work-study job at the library. I got yelled at by some guy sad.gif I'm not used to checking out any audio/visual stuff to people because that's a different department, but today I checked out a video to this guy. I ran the video box over the "desensitizer" to make sure it wouldn't set off any alarms on the way out. Again, I'm not used to checking kind of stuff out to people so it never crossed my mind that that might not be okay with VHS tapes. He freaked out on me and yelled, "NO!! DON'T DO THAT WITH VHSs! DON'T EVER DO THAT WITH VHSs!! THERE IS A MAGNETIC FILM INSIDE AND IT MESSES IT UP WHEN YOU PUT IT TO A MAGNET!!!!!" I was freaked out and just told him, "Okay." because I didn't know what to do so I apologized. I've never been yelled at like that. He just did that very angry, "It's fine!" and proceeded to explain it to me one more time as he rolled his eyes with the angriest look on his face. It seriously made me feel like crying crybaby.gif I gave him the stuff he checked out, told him the due dates, and told him I had to keep his ID because one of them was "In library use only". He continued to roll his eyes and then asked, quite rudely, "Can I have my ID back?" "Um...it's in library use only" "OH...okay, that's right" And he walked away with one more roll of the eyes. sad.gif

Oh, good thing, however, I found my ID which I had lost biggrin.gif

Today my professor told us that he was going to learn how to rap his lectures to us or learn to tap dance while teaching us. He said it was because we all fall asleep in his class. I just think he wanted to get a laugh out of us. Good 'ole Theology class. Now on to studying for Church History as well as Theology.

Left my textbook, notes, and handouts in class. Now I can't study. Oh well, I'll get them Thursday.

Wednesday---September 30, 2009

I really enjoyed the first day of cold weather today! I could actually walk from one building to another without sweating like I usually do (my college is HUGE, and in humid, sunny Florida).
I had Weight Training class today and loved it, as always =] That class is what's getting me through college...it's so de-stressing and doesn't have homework!

For the last four hours and forty-five minutes I've worked on a paper that is due tomorrow and should have been finished wayyy before tonight. But that's what college is all about, right? Procrastinating and cramming...without practicing both of those on a regular basis, I'd be ashamed to call myself a college student!
I'm definitely kidding. Procrastinating is a major pet peeve of mine; but this week has been so busy I haven't had the time =/ Ugh. I can feel an all-nighter coming on...

Tomorrow will be fun: pre-calc quiz, group advising session, that ridiculous first-year English comp class (I've yet to discover the purpose of that one), the list of boredom and torture could go on and on. The only thing that makes it worthwhile will be hitting up the gym the moment I'm free and working out to my heart's content. Sigh...I hope 5pm comes soon tomorrow...

I knew having a roommate would cause a few problems. dry.gif Constantly fighting with your boyfriend is NOT something I want to put up with every night. Heck, I've never even met the guy, yet I know all his flaws. Unfortunately, from what I've heard you say, he has no good traits except he has a hot brother. v_v

Grow up. You're not dating his brother, so stop putting your boyfriend down.

I've officially decided to drop College Algebra. The class is ONE night a week... And I just cannot commit myself. I did great in summer school because it was every single day for a month, but I just can't seem to stay committed to caring about my grade in Algebra! So I dropped it. Yay?

British Lit is going well, we're reading Dr. Faustus.

Art Appreciation... I think the teacher likes me. I came in 5 minutes before class ended (did a friend a favor, drove her to my work and got her a job because she's desperate) and the teacher counted me TARDY. I missed 95% of class, and she counted me tardy, not absent. I was like O_O THANKS. WOW.

Marriage and Family is a joke... The teacher misses like every 3 classes. We watch movies and copy notes directly off of a projector.

English Comp 2 is so incredibly boring I can't even sit in that class for 5 minutes without yawning. We need 10 sources for some random essay that I don't even know anything about. Oh well.

Computer Concepts... I won't even bother.

Oh, the life of a college student. rolleyes.gif
