I beleive everything happens for a reason.
I think that people get cancer or any other illness, so that they can be a stronger person.

I believe God lets things happen. The life of a Christian isn't a field of roses. Also we know Satan can inflict but only with God's permission, which is used to test us.

I said maybe to both because there are times when God's anger becomes so great at an individual that he punishes them with sickness. Also, there are times when Satan is given the right to inflict pain and sickness on people. In fact, I would say that it happens frequently because of possession.

I don't think God punishs us with sickness nor dos Satan inflict sickness on others.

Yo catch a cold when you come into contact with the cold virus; not bc God thinks you're naughty and deserve a few days off of work.

You should try reading the book of Job.

Job was allegorical; a metaphor meant to explain a lesson. It's not actual history.

people make choices everyday. god is in complete control of everything but man has free will and they choose what they do. if they choose to do stupid things that make them sick. god is not the cause but he is in control...

To those who just get sick, i can't say for sure. God is still in control of what happens and he will get glory out of it no matter what. Even if we never understand it...at least until we get home...

God hasnt caused sickness. God hasnt created pain. It was ever since the fall that these things have showed up and we know that the fall was not God, it was Adam and Eve by the abuse of their free will.

Adam and eve didnt open the door to disease. If you get sick, it's bc you, no one else, didn't take care of yourself well enough. A cold isn't caused by god wishing punishment or retribution on you.

I am sorry most of you here are wrong. Again a topic people are debating without even looking up scripture.

Colossians 1:16-17 "For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together"

How can you say that God didn't create cancer and then believe he created everything we see and unseen. As terrible as something is like cancer, poverty, ect. You have to assume it was created by him. Does this change who God is? No he is still God, and a God of love. Our time on this earth is short, we constantly think that it is all about us as if we are the main characters in a movie, when in reality we are just extras with 2/3 of a second role, as Francis Chan puts it.

We try to blame God for the things that happen, when he can ask us the same question, Why is there poverty, why aren't you treating for the sick and so forth. Is cancer a bad thing, ya it sucks, is it a reason for us to quit and give up, absolutely not. James tells us to press on, testing of our faith develops perseverance. He is with us every step of the way. I think one of the best verses in the bible is the one that says "Jesus wept". Lazarus died and he was a friend and it effected those around him. He didn't go hey, I am going to raise him from the dead get over it, he wept with them.

Most effective sermon anyone can give is "Me Too" - Anne Lamott

Bible talks all about suffering, to think its not going to happen is only fooling ourselves. Question isn't if it's going to happen, it's what will our reaction be when it happens.

Job, great story in the bible. Satan was unable to do anything to Job without God's permission first. God allowed Job to suffer to show that people can have faith in God, without God's favor. It shows us that free will exist, because there was no reason for him to believe in God, but he did anyways. There was nothing effecting his decision to serve God.

Can I begin to explain all they why questions to this? Never, my mind our mind cannot grasp fully who God is. When we try we fall short. To be able to grasp him, would mean that he isn't a very powerful God.
