Okay, so I'm not talking about if you feel convicted by a sermon or God speaks to you "through a book or song" or what-have-you, and I'm not talking about you having a jolly ol' conversation with yourself. What I mean is being taken surprise by the actual voice of the actual Almighty, either if it was a booming audible voice (probably not lol) or a voice-in-the-back-of-your-head thing. smile.gif

I have. It was more of a voice-in-the-back-of-my-head, but I know it wasn't just me. I can't really describe it.

I voted that I am not sure. I would like to say that I have. smile.gif

When I was like 13 or 14, my sister and I were on our way to our room to go to sleep. We realised that we had left our radio outside. It was also our alarm clock so we both went out to get it. We started to go out the front door but something in my head told me "no, go out the back door". I told my sister to follow me out the back door and as we were racing to see who could get there first we saw the backside of a bear. It was turning a corner ahead of us about 30 feet or so on its way to the front yard. If we would have went out the front door we would have ran right into it.

Anyway, I feel like God stepped in that night and saved us from something that could have been a disaster.

Actually hearing an audible voice... not so much.

What I have experienced though was more of a feeling or even a knowing. I have felt Him comforting me a few times, and I knew things right then that could have only been from God.

Once was probably about 5 years back; I was having a rough time, and I was alone in my room, and I was just crying and crying, and I felt God's presence, and I knew that He had forgiven me, He loved me and that He was with me.
(I think something had happened where I had gotten mad at one of the baby sisters, and I felt absolutely rotten. Haha... I was probably 8-10)

Just stuff like that. It's never a "voice", but I have heard Him in my head/felt His presence before.

No, I've been literally knocked off my feet by his touch (Adoration in front of the blessed sacrament is awsome!) and I've felt him "nudging" me to do certain things (again during adoration.) but I've never actually heard his voice.....

I did have a dream once that Jesus was in my room.... It was after a rough break up and I was seriously questioning my faith and I had fallen asleep crying then later I woke up (I remeber looking at the clock for some reason 2:25 if thats significant I don't know) and he was sitting next to me on the bed holding my hand.... I jumped because I didn't recognize him at first, but he just looked at me then leaned forward and kissed my forehead. Then I realized who it was, and realized I must be dreaming, and he vanished.... I got out of bed and prayed.

I've had a lot of dreams with things in my room, (snakes, panthers, puppies, clones of my dog, my horse (why she was in my room I don't know), friends, loved ones that have passed on, hamsters.... lots of hamsters) and I sleep walk a lot, (which is even more fun in college :-P) but this was pretty realistic compared to those...

I have. Audible.
I was having the worst time with worry and being afraid of the future, so one night I was praying on the way home from class and a voice said "Trust in me." It wasn't me thinking it or imagining it. It really happened
It wasn't loud or booming. It was soft, but authoritative.

If God came out of nowhere and hit me in the face, I wouldn't know it.

No, really, quite literally, I would tell you I couldn't possibly know.

So my answer is; very well maybe. I wouldn't know if I have or haven't. In fact, I can't even think of any memorable instance I would ever have said it was more probable. I can only remember one time I was speaking with a friend and they started speaking something that sounded inspired, but that could've just been the feeling of eureka more than anything.

Yes,I think so.

One time,at night, I was depressed and crying, asking God to hear my prayers.I felt so alone.

After I was done praying,I read my Bible.A couple of verses down it said,"I have heard thy prayers;I have seen thy tears."
It wasn't like I was reading it,it was like someone(God) was saying it to me.
As soon as I read those words,I felt loved and a calmness came over me.
One of my greatest experiances.

I have had the voice-in-the-back of my head thing a few times...sometimes I'm not quite sure if it's God or just me, but there are at least two instances (I think they were on the same day) when I was deep in prayer and heard God speak from somewhere in the recesses of my soul, or rather, to my soul, I suppose.

One thing was because I was praying that I could be a blessing to some friends (one in particular, more than the rest) because they are such a blessing to me. That sometimes I just don't feel I am "returning the favor" so to speak. And I basically got, "But you are a blessing to them. You don't need to pray to be a blessing to them because you already are one."

The second thing was, and now I realize the two were definitely on the same day, that I was asking for my friend to know how much he means to me and to our church and just how great of a blessing he is and how much we value him in our hearts...I prayed this because I know he doesn't realize it; well...he didn't then. And then I just heard God speak again and say, "You want him to know so badly...why don't you tell him?" So...I did. Funny thing is, we had been talking a few days before about hearing God's voice and how sometimes you don't listen, but then later you come to regret it because when God gave you a chance to take action, you didn't and you ignored His voice. So when I heard God speak to me, I was confused at first as to whether I was just hearing what I wanted. But I decided that I wasn't going to let the chance pass me by now that God had told me to do something.

I really have no doubt about those two things being from God. Other times I think I have heard His voice...I am not so sure about...but that one evening, I am positive about.

[edit]oh...sorry to make this so long, but I just remembered one more. It was the very first time it ever happened. I was praying concerning a national title I was up for that would eventually result in a full paid scholarship to the school I knew I wanted to attend for college. He told me not to worry, that I would receive the answer within the week. He told me that I definitely needn't worry because I would receive the title. Well, about mid-way into the week, I received a letter in the mail. I opened it. Read it. And realized I had indeed been awarded the title and my scholarship. I told my mom, and I just cried. Not out of gladness for receiving the award, but because God had spoken to me and done so sooo very clearly. It was probably one of the best feelings I've ever had. Ah...so peaceful...

As I've pondered the question, i believe if we were to truly hear the words of God the Father, we would tremble and we would cower and we would fear. Every instance of God speaking in the Bible results in fear and cowering from the people. The Lord is a consuming fire and He is mighty. Much like Bryce said, we ultimately will never know if it was truly God who spoke to us, because there's no means of proving it, but I'm beginning to think that if God truly were to audibly speak to any of us, we would fall onto our faces proclaiming "Holy!"
I know I would.

For the record, the Holy Spirit is a different matter.

^^^
I agree with that. I do believe that if I ever heard God's voice, truly audibly, just like I could hear you talk if you were in front of me, I would fall on my face. There is little doubt in my mind of that. The voice I have heard is very much like the voice I would hear when I am just thinking to myself, not some outwardly audible voice. But I know it did not come from within me. They weren't my thoughts but rather something that was "planted" there...

*sigh* but to actually hear with my ears God's voice...how grand that would be...

One thing I have noticed, is that there are a lot of charismatic people who seek the help of "prophets" to find the will of God. This is a big problem to some extent, because we stop seeking God, and we begin seeking man.
Charles Spurgeon in a book simply said that if God wished to tell him something, God would, but He sought God after his whole heart every single day through His word.

If God spoke to us, or if we knew everything, I think we'd stop seeking His word less. I can say this because I've noticed it happen in my life at moments.

I think that would be interlocution which is reserved for Catholics only.

The def. of interlocution is: Speech between two or more persons; conversation.

For the record, I'm catholic and Im not sure what youre driving at here. God can speak to whomever He chooses.

And in my experience, when I audibly heard His voice it was Not a 2-way convo. I did the listening.
BTW: hearing God's voice is more of a call to responsibility vs some sort of sweet treat.

In full agreement here. Several of my fellow bible study members are actively seeking out someone to teach them to do "healings". This concerns me.

Not really. Unless perhaps we knew everything or thought we knew everything which of course is impossible.

When you hear God, you do not cower in fear and you do not stop seeking Him.
For me, I felt immediately humbled without being humiliated. I felt more. Period. I entered a period of mourning. I spit out the other end more joyful. I do not ask for any additional "signs" from Him as none are needed.

I have not heard God's voice, but someday I would really love to. My mother heard his voice multiple times, she said it was like somebody was talking to her in the living room, but nobody was there. It was not just in her head.

I'll have to answer 'maybe'. I know in times of despair I've prayed to God and received a response, but it usually comes in the form of an epiphany rather than an actual voice. I have heard God talking to me in dreams, but I suspect that the voice I hear was just created in my head based on how I would imagine God to sound.
