QUOTE
In a Q&A with Details magazine, the openly gay 'Lord of the Rings' star admits to a habit of tearing out the Bible passage that condemns homosexuality -- Leviticus 18:22 -- every time he finds one in his hotel room. The passage: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

"I'm not proudly defacing the book," he asserts, "but it's a choice between removing that page and throwing away the whole Bible."

McKellen says his actions have inspired others to do the same. "I got delivered a package of 40 of those pages that had been torn out by a married couple I know. They put them on a bit of string so that I could hang it up in the bathroom."

Wow, living a sinful lifestyle and ripping out passages you don't agree with. Yup, almost sounds like Cafeteria Christians, except they like to use large words and arguments of fools, and rather than ripping it out they try changing the meaning of it.

I'm surprised he takes out that one and not the one saying to put them to death.

Ian McKellen is an excellent actor, but his beliefs, morals, and spiritual life are in sad shape. How do I know? Through his actions.

Don't see the problem. Bible teaches some good morals, and also teaches backwards, hateful ways. Get what you can out of it.

The dumbest thing is that people will wonder what that page said and why it is missing so the curious ones will just go read it anyways.

Actually, Revelation is speaking about itself, not the whole "bible" (which didn't even exist at the time Revelation was being written).

Christians have "thrown out" most of the book of Leviticus anyway, this is just a physical representation of that, caused by one man's reaction to the misuse of the verse. Perfectly understandable.

Actually only the "Christians" who cannot fully understand the law, and its meaning with the redemption of a perfect lamb. Jesus didn't die on the cross to remove or destroy the law, he came to fulfill it, to be a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Those who do not repent and accept the redemptive blood are still held accountable to their actions by the law. By "throwing" out the law, we have no need for a savior.

On topic, being a free country he is allowed his opinion, but defacing bibles in the hotels is uncalled for.

Usually I dislike pointing out that the pot and the kettle are both black, but the people who are met adamant incondemning Mr. McKellen are those who are also most likely to burn books they disagree with. (Harry Potter, anyone?)

Not surprised. Ian Mckellen is outspoken about his atheism:

Link
"British actor Ian McKellen [Gandalf of Lord of the Rings], piped up: “Well, I’ve often thought the Bible should have a disclaimer in the front saying this is fiction. "

If you own the book, or have the authority of the owner to burn the book there is no problem. Freedom of speech. The only real problem that I see in this whole thing is that he is defacing someone elses property. It would be no different that cutting the flowers off the wallpaper in the hotel bathrooms because flowers offended you.

Now if that's not a blanket statement, I don't know what is.

It is not a blanket statement as I used the words "most likely". I'm aware there are people who condemn Mr. McKellen, but I think it's a safe bet to say that a good portion of those who condemn him have done something similar.

Firefighter, you and I both know books have been burned under circumstances that were less than lawful.
