Disregard polygamy.

I know this dude who's a mormon and he's always telling me I should "read the bible" and "throw the book of mormon in there while you're at it."

So, do mormons get their beliefs from another book besides the bible?

Are mormons christian?

What do they believe in addition to normal Christian beliefs? My knowledge is limited to what I've heard here and other places.

What is this other book? Was it really "found" (or written) just a few hundred years ago? And did a guy really read it all out of a hat?

And do they really believe that Adam and Eve were located in Jackson County Missouri?

I don`t know much about Mormonism, but I have seen this video before and messaged a Mormon on youtube about it and she said it was untrue about many Mormon beliefs (and was banned for that reason).

However, the LDS people I have spoken to verify what the video said about the so-called "curse" of darker-skinned people.

Watch a South Park episode on Mormons. It's really accurate, just like the episode on Scientology.

Mormonism is considered a cult. They get the Book of Mormon from Joseph Smith who has a conversation with a demon, though he claims and angel is who gave him golden tablets in a different language with the book of Mormon on it.

Mormons are not considered Christians anymore than Jehovah Witnesses are.

So you really believe Joseph Smith had a "conversation" with something?

I always thought he was just nuts and made it all up himself.

Yes, I believe it was a demon, just like I believe Mohammed talked to one too. Obviously, they didn't realize it as one seeing that they can appear as an angel of light.

This post can easily come off sarcastic, but to clarify, what he's saying is actually correct. The South Park episodes on Scientology and Mormonism are actually very correct.

Mormons believe that the "Godhead" is actually three separate beings. The God of the Bible is One Being, Who shows Himself in Three Persons, all of Whom are God just in different forms and such.

They believe God the Father is in human flesh, which is scripturally untrue
God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth. - John 4:24 NIV

They also believe Jesus is in human flesh (true).
Then they believe the Holy Spirit has a "spirit body". (false) tongue.gif
God the Father is literally the father of human spirits. (false)

And a bunch of other hokey nonsense

Mormonism is not Christian as it denies several foundational tenents of Christianity.

Specifically:

- They teach tri-theism, or rather polytheism by stating that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are 3 separate Gods.

- They state that salvation requires not only faith in Jesus, but also baptism, obeying the Mormom church, and following God's commands.

- They deny the virgin birth

- They state that humans can become gods

- They state that God has a physical body

- While the Bible states that God has existed for "eternity," they believe he used to be a "man"

While linking to a Mormon evangelical website probably breaks the rules, their Gospel Principles website in Chapter 47 states:

QUOTE (Mormon Theology)
When we lived with our Heavenly Father, he explained a plan for our progression. We could become like him, an exalted being. The plan required that we be separated from him and come to earth. This separation was necessary to prove whether we would obey our Father's commandments even though we were no longer in his presence. The plan provided that when earth life ended, we would be judged and rewarded according to the degree of our faith and obedience. We would then be assigned to the place for which we had prepared.

***

The Prophet Joseph Smith taught: "When you climb up a ladder, you must begin at the bottom, and ascend step by step, until you arrive at the top; and so it is with the principles of the Gospel--you must begin with the first, and go on until you learn all the principles of exaltation. But it will be a great while after you have passed through the veil [died] before you will have learned them. It is not all to be comprehended in this world; it will be a great work to learn our salvation and exaltation even beyond the grave" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 348).

This is the way our Heavenly Father became God. Joseph Smith taught: "It is the first principle of the Gospel to know for a certainty the character of God. . . . He was once a man like us; . . . God himself, the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth, the same as Jesus Christ himself did" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp. 345-46).

Incidently, a lot of their "Book of Mormon" is plagiarised from the KJV, including the translation errors within it. Such as 3 Nephi 11:27 is taken straight from 1 John 5:7, but the passage is an interpolation.

Also, Isaiah 4:5 is "and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence." in the KJV, yet this is a mistranslation of חפּה which would more accurate as "canopy." But 2 Nephi 14:5 repeats this error.

Wow. I was all set up and ready to say something, then I realized everyone said it before me!

Cool.

Anyways, Mormonism truly is a cult. And I agree with the fact that he did indeed have a conversation with a demon. I believe this happens a lot, giving rise to ghost stories and other such things. Sometimes religions, like Mormonism and Islam.

It would take a lot of imagionation for a man to come up with all this on his own.

Actually the person who came up with Scientology was a kooky old woman who (crazy or not) believed every word she wrote. Not that that has any relevance to the Mormon topic.

EDIT: Oh wait, I'm confusing Scientology and christian scientists. Sorry Never mind haha
