I don't know why; but I LOVE music. And I have an appreciation for any type of music, basically. Its weird to me. Anyone else like that? But I HATE RAP and ALL the stuff they play on the radio. I just love things with a GREAT meaning other than a person "loving" someone else. Just thought I'd make a forum bout it.

I'm similar. I don't like Rap, or anything related to it. I've been around music all my life, starting with Oldies, Country, and Southern Gospel. Basically, I enjoy older music more than modern stuff. Anywhere from Classical, to the Golden Oldies, to SOME Techno/Electronica, and I peter out around late 80s. Some modern stuff is catchy, but not much. I much prefer Southern Gospel--I sing it too.

Also, I don't think I've ever met a single person who has said "I don't like music." I have met someone who said that they preferred movies over music, but movies contain music, so ba-dum-tsh. Deadmau5, Daft Punk, Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers are all my favourite electronica music, and I absolutely hate Lady Gaga and all the bands like 80% of the teens listen to these days. I also like Modest Mouse and Rush.

yay another music thread!
erm, i like a lot of random stuff: pop, rock, jazz sometimes, cinematic music, rap, blues sometimes... don't like country or the really old classical stuff though. Some of the artists and bands i like: Rihanna, AAR, The Fray, Eva Cassidy, Rob Thomas, John Mayer, Lady Gaga, Smash Mouth, Norah Jones, E. S. Posthumus, Alicia Keys, Sia, Butterfly Boucher, Fleetwood Mac, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Eminem (rarely..), Sara Bareilles, Thriving Ivory, Billy Joel, KT Tunstall... Michael Bublé ^^ oh and Bobby Darin's cool (er, was) .... and Linkin Park... and then some others who have written/covered one or two rly good songs (U2, The Killers, 10 Years, Amy Kuney, The Righteous Brothers xP). And a bunch of others I won't mention. ...and cinematic music - Thomas Newman, Rachel Portman... ...and Pendulum and Ratatat make some cool electronic stuff. Not much Christian music in my playlists though. :/ |

I'm really picky about my music, ask anyone who knows me.
The following I will not under any circumstances listen to: - Taylor Swift. Specifically, You Belong With Me. For one, 'sneakers' and 'bleachers' do NOT in fact rhyme. Secondly, the girl in the song is totally shallow - she obviously has hardly ever talked to this guy she's so infatuated with, which means she's basing him completely on looks. Thirdly, the song was just made to cater to all those girls who have some silly puppy love crush on a guy they barely know, and that's not a good thing to encourage, especially if the guy's dating someone else. Just accept the fact that he's not interested, and is obviously interested in his girlfriend. Don't expect him to dump her for you. /rant - Christian music (haha, it always sounds bad when I say it. I'm not opposed to the idea of worshiping God through song, but it just seems like all Christian songs are the same. They have the same words - generally praise, glory, worship, love, etc. - and have the same sound.) - Country (Don't wanna hear about some hick singing about the fact that he married his cousin and drives a green tractor. Seriously, I by mistake turned to the country music radio station, and all I heard was something about a green tractor. An hour or two later, while browsing through stations, I turned to it again, and heard the same song. Give me a break.) - Rap (No one cares that you've slept with tons of women and love your bling and your car.) - basically any of the top 40 songs (self-explanatory) - Hannah Cyrus or Miley Montana or whatever the heck her name is. (I listen to people with real talent, thank you very much. Not people who have famous parents and happen to get their own TV show centered around them. Also, she sells out way too much. She just wants fame, it doesn't seem like she actually has a passion for making music. Not that she makes the music herself anyways.) - The Jonas Brothers (blegh.) - Demi Lovato (blegh again) - Kings of Leon (Seriously, why are they so super popular all of a sudden? The lead singer's voice makes me want to tear my ears off. Especially Use Somebody, it's EVERYWHERE!) - Blues - Jazz NOTE: This whole list was just me ranting, so don't feel offended if I attacked your tastes in music. Remember, it's just my opinion. And NOW! For the music I love. It's mostly indie rock, symphonic metal, classic rock, and some pop/techno thrown in there every now and then. And movie soundtracks are awesome. - The Killers - White Lies - Kamelot - Tokio Hotel - The Bravery - The Beatles - Coldplay ^ My top few favourites Whew. That's a lot more writing than I intended... hehe. |

That's a lot more writing than I intended... hehe. Dude!!! Yes!! Can't think of anything I disagree with, except for maybe Kings of Leon. They're from my hometown, so yeah, gotta support them a bit. I haven't listened to them too much though... Blues in moderation are okay too. But yes, couldn't agree more about country, disney art... never mind, disney singers, rap, and Christian music. And yeah, some of my favorite genres are Indie Rock Alternative Folk Some oldies (I'm a bit selective) Experimental Acoustic Pop (the good kind... like Jack Johnson, Ingrid Michaelson, Katie Herzig, KT TunstallJudd & Maggie etc) Piano Rock(!!) Rock Art Rock Soundtracks Bluesy rock (like Black Keys) Hymns (either acompanied by something simple like a piano, or a really good musican has to cover them... like Sufjan Stevens) Some favorite bands are: White Stripes (and basically every band Jack White is in... lol) Death Cab for Cutie Arcade Fire Bright Eyes Okkervil River Ra Ra Riot Fleet Foxes The Killers Snow Patrol Sea Wolf Ya know, stuff like that. |

Rikki, don't lose that number
you don't want to call nobody else. Send it off in a letter to your self Rikki don't lose that number It's the only one you own You might use it if you feel better When you Get home Steely Dan are pretty cool. Back in the day, the bassist of my band always used to play that bass line to that song and plenty of other Steely Dan songs. Not my taste in music, but awesome bass lines. |

Like 99.99% of everyone in the world, I too, enjoy music. OMG.
My music taste kind of goes in cycles. I'll like a certain genre/band, get sick of it, move on to another, and then go back to the old one a few months/years later. So, here's my top genres of the past year or so: -80s/new wave (New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The Police, Journey, The Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen, Tears for Fears) -Pop-punk I guess. I hate that genre name because people use it describe pretty much anything from Relient K to the stuff I like. (Blink 182, The Offspring, Less Than Jake, Lit, Alien Ant Farm, Sum 41) -Some genre that I never really learned the name of, but the bands sound similar. I guess I'll just throw them into "alternative" (For Against, She Wants Revenge, The Chameleons, Sad Lovers and Giants, Sneaker Pimps, The Comsat Angels, The Good the Bad and the Queen, Slowdive) -I don't know what to call this other than rock. If you can't tell, I suck at genres. (Fuel, Collective Soul, Bush, Cracker, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Seether, Smile Empty Soul) -Brit pop (Oasis, Blur, Suede, The Tears) And then there's Brand New and Third Eye Blind, my forever favorites that don't fit in any of those categories Hm, dislikes. I actually don't mind a lot of top 40 stuff. I hate BrokeNCYDE. I'm not a fan of metal, screamo, or anything similar to those. |
