Can someone please tell me why we persist in tossing money away even in the current state of our economy, this is ridiculous! Everyone pisses and moans about not having the money to do this or that and meanwhile we sending money to foreign countries for technology, cmon now, if you are going to donate money do it for things like medical care, not the umbrella of technology that can mean anythinfrom iphones to fax machines.

DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING!

The best way to combat terrorism is through education and jobs; this is a step in the right direction for the mid east. Knowlege and learning has the means to fight radical fundamentalism.

Sure I wish we had done this three years ago when our economy was better....

hmm.... so well it's obvious... the government is spending money like americans did during the past few years. I wonder when we'll begin jumping our debt between loners like people would do with several credit cards.

Some of these nations have a bigger population than America, yet you're about 10-20 times richer than they are. Isn't something wrong there?

Just because you're America doesn't mean you deserve to live comfortably while almost half the world lives in poverty...

At the moment, a lot of these Muslim countries are completely crippled from civil wars, corrupt leaders etc. and they don't have the means to sustain themselves. They're relying on extortionate foreign loans and big businesses that're paying them pittance for their produce, labour and resources.

If only they had the money to spend on education for their people, technology that potentially could lift them out of this pit they're in... But who do you think should give this money? Perhaps, maybe the most powerful nation on earth?

Btw, I'm not just ranting at you, L. I'm pretty much talking to everyone who's posted in this thread thus far... :/

Dude, how can he fix the worlds problems if he can't even fix America's?

Obama is supposed to take care of the ones he was given authority over before taking care of everyone else. Should a father of a house give to other families when his own is hurting?

The United States does not have millions of dollars just lying around! It makes absolutely no sense to give out money like this when we're trillions in debt!!

If you're still one of the most powerful countries in the world then do you really think that you have it worse than the countries that have nothing?

Furthermore, Obama's plan to fix your economy takes time to work (and it looks like it's starting to work) but it's ridiculous to say that you shouldn't give out any money until after your economies okay, isn't it? Hundreds of thousand would die in that time that could have been saved by that measly 150 million dollars! (America spends 518.3 billion on defence.)

These countries have no way of getting out of their situation, right? There is absolutely nothing they can do to fix themselves without their debts being paid and their country being fixed without millions/billions in foreign aid. This money that Obama's giving is just a start. They'll need much more.

Who do you think should give them this money? Who do you think needs the money more? Those who are starving to death or those who can't buy that new car they wanted?


America is in debt because of greedy bankers, irrisponsible loan sharks and the general ignorance of the people falling into debt spirals. (Mostly)

Most (but not all) of these Muslim countries have been sucked dry by corrupt politicians and false religious leaders. The people haven't got good eduction and they're desperate for work so they will happily follow anyone who gives them even a little hope.

I'll say it again.

America has the means to get out of debt. Most of these impoverished Muslim countries do not have these means because nobody has been giving them nearly enough money. They've have to accept unfair loans and practically give away their produce, oil and labour.

It's so very, very unfair.

Oh, and Obama promiced to strengthen ties with the Muslim world. If he doesn't want to just talk the talk then he has to do something practical and actually help these people. I'm sure you'll agree that a politician doesn't look good if he goes back on his word...

You tell me. Who does decide whats fair and unfair? Is it right to take away from your own to give to others without their permission? Are you blind to the starving families in this country?

I just realized something. The chance of this money going to where it is suppose to is very unlikely. Not to long ago, I read an article of how we gave Pakistan 5 or 6 billion to counteract terrorists, and only 500 million of it made it to where it was suppose to go. This money that Obama is offerring them is going to dissolve because of bureaucracy. My hope is that if they get the money, none of it goes to any terrorist.

Pakistan also is semi allied with the taliban as proxy fighters. SaudiArabia has the most privately donated funds to terrorist organizations and other "factions". Both nations are our allies in the war on terror. By proxy, we are allied with some terrorists by lieu of "an enemy of my enemy is a friend". Every nation ha their own agenda.

Starving families?

You have welfare, government benefits, that kind of thing, right?

These people have nothing, no one looking out for them.

In a lot of these countries, even the rich are fleeing to more wealthy states.

They haven't got education, they haven't got jobs and they can't do anything until they've paid off their debts!

But where do they get nearly all of their money from? Loans.

If you have concocted some miraculous way they can fix this mess without billions in foriegn aid then you may just become famous overnight, get some sort of nobel prize and save millions of lives.

There's your incentive, so please tell us all how you plan to do this...

If all the rich people flee, and the poor gets poorer, pretty soon their states wouldn't function at all. And, strangely, they still exist.

To those who are asking why he's doing this when the economy is in the potty:
Theoretically this could reduce debt; improving relations with Muslim nations may result in less of a terrorist threat, which in turn would result in less money being needed to fund the 'War on Terror' as it isn't called, which would reduce debt.
