I've given my life to God, and I was just wondering if I'm allowed to go to parties? Like I'm sure there will be drinking and stuff. But am I allowed to go? Or should I pass, and If I went I wouldn't be participating, in the drinking and all that other stuff.

I'll tell you what Rachel Scott once wrote in her journal:

"Dear God,

I promise that I will not drink this Friday when I go out with _______. This is so tempting. I want to go so bad. Well, I thought about it (as you know) and I thought that since you would forgive me anyways, I may as well do it. Then I realized that you will always, always forgive me, but you may not let it go unpunished. Then I decided to do it strictly out of fear. Then I thought about it more, and thought that if I did it out of fear, it would not be done because I loved you, I obeyed you, and I followed you. That is my reason for not going now. I know I will always be faced with temptation, but because I love you, I obey you, and I follow you I will not fall into the core of it."

Parites tend to be very dangerous, and because so many drink to get drunk and, at times, illegal drug can be present, I would vote against it. It's easy to say 'I just won't drink' and such, but many people do, as Rachel said, "fall into the core of it" (temptation). So I would just pass and perhaps go see a movie with friends or something else.

Pass for several reasons.

1) Temptation - Temptation is very strong. At times, it can be almost impossible.
2) Testimony - Going to parties would ruin your testimony as a Christian.
Abstain from all appearance of evil - 1 Thessalonians 5:22 KJV
Anyone who sets himself up as "religious" by talking a good game is self-deceived. This kind of religion is hot air and only hot air. Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world - James 1:26-27 The Message
Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord; do not touch any unclean thing, and I will welcome you - 2 Corinthians 6:17 HCSB

Most parties turn into what is mentioned below.
Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar, about which I tell you in advance—as I told you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. - Galatians 5:19-21 HCSB

Go get involved with some good genuine God loving people that will help you draw closer to the Lord.

1 Corinthians 6:20 "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

You have an EXCELLENT opportunity to bring glory to God in this situation. If I were you, I would tell your friends that you don't want to go because you love God. That may be a difficult thing for you to do as a young person, but you are more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ (Romans 8:37). Don't try to do it on your own strength, but seek God in prayer.

I would definitely pass, because remember, as a believer the Holy Spirit abides in you. I would not be in an atmosphere that would grieve Him so greatly.

I also like what Michael said. Don't focus on what you can't do, but rather fellowship with other believers. Christians are the best friends you can have.

That little itching you have to go to parties, that's your sinful nature. That's the thing us Christians are always fighting. Don't let that itch, that little voice take over what you do. Shut that little voice out, and obey God's voice.
Either obey the voice of sin, or obey the voice of God.

QUOTE
Romans 13:13
Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.
Romans 13:12-14 (in Context) Romans 13 (Whole Chapter)

QUOTE
Galatians 5
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

QUOTE
1 Peter 4:3
You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols.
1 Peter 4:2-4 (in Context) 1 Peter 4 (Whole Chapter)

Well, if you gave yourself to God you shouldn't do things that would provoke you to go back to your bad habits.

If you give your life to God it means you are dedicated to learn about God and His word and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Little by little you should grow more intimate with God and become pure.

So, regarding to pure, parties are not part of pure.

Good to hear you gave your life to God!
It's your new beginning to show God how much you love Him and the faith you have for him.
Trust me, if you have the faith, God would put it in your heart to tell what's right from wrong.

God bless.

Best thing to do would be Pass because even if you commit yourself and say you will be the Designated Driver the alcohol is still there and so is the temptation. There is also peer pressure. So I would pass.

In the first 11 chapters of the book of Romans, Paul explains how man is inherently sinful and in opposition to God, and how no one is good but Him, and that we all deserve death and Hell. Yet He tells us that God made a way, by sending His son to die on the cross, and through repentance and faith in Christ, we can be saved from sin. He then continues to tell us about what God does in us after salvation, and the differences between a life in the flesh, and a life in the spirit. The first 11 chapters are, in essence, a lengthy description of the mercies of God.

Then in Romans 12, Paul begins to dictate what theologians call the "orthopraxis" (which means right practice). In the first part of Romans was "orthodoxy"(right doctrine), and now he is telling us how to apply that doctrine to our lives, how to practice it. Paul begins in 12:1 by saying,
QUOTE
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.:
In view of all the mercies of God described n the previous 11 chapters, here's how Paul asks us to live our lives: by offering ourselves to God as a living sacrifice to Him. In Old Testament times, the only people allowed to offer up the sacrifice was the priest. Through Jesus Christ, we have become a "holy priesthood"(1 Peter 2:5), therefore having the privilege to enter the Most Holy Place and sacrifice ourselves.(Hebrews 10:19-22) We are called to give ourselves completely to God, and continually(a dead sacrifice is given once, then burned; a living sacrifice remains on the altar forever) giving everything to His glory.

So, with that mindset, how can we determine the will of God? Verse 2 says,
QUOTE
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
Ask yourself two questions: By going to this party, am I conforming to the pattern of this world or am I carrying the cross of Christ? Am I seeking my own pleasure, or am I living as a sacrifice, wholly dedicated to pleasing Him?

I would advise you to
QUOTE
"Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them."
(Ephesians 5:11) Don't go to the party, and tell all of your friends why, sharing the gospel with them and inviting them to share with you in the love and devotion to Christ. If you truly love them, you will not approve of their deeds, but tell them the truth about sin and the judgment seat of Christ, so that they might hear and be saved.

God Bless,
Levi
