I just switched from the Release Candidate to the Professional version (legally) the other day. Since I'm a student, I was eligible to get Home Premium or Professional for £30. And since they were the same price...I chose Professional. tongue.gif I get integrated file encryption, Windows XP Mode and a few other extra cool stuffs that aren't in Home Premium. Yay! happy.gif

P.S. Windows 7 is so worth getting. If you hated Vista, you'll love 7.

I have XP and can`t afford another laptop or any other software. Yeesh, I feel out of the loop. When I got this laptop a few months ago, I was amazed with the fancy-schmancy XP look and features as opposed to windows 98 or 95 (which all the other computers in this household have).

Excuse me, but what are internet checkers?

Anyway, I am probably waiting till SP3 comes out.

Its that game ^ but you play it online with other people biggrin.gif

Anyway, I don't have it yet. I plan to wait a few to to see how people rate it (but so far all I have heard is positive comments) I assume it won't turn into the whole error and incompatibility thing that Vista had >.>
Can you upgrade to from XP ? Or is it Vista only :>

Well technically... thats not how it works. lol W7 only upgrades from Vista. So if you have XP, you will need to download a version of Vista beforehand. There, let me quote it, they might say it better than me. lol

But Phillip said "clean install", in other words, completely removing XP before installing Windows 7. wink.gif A clean install is always the best way to go about installing an OS anyway, in my opinion.

I opted for a clean install even though I could have done a simple upgrade. It's much better, gets rid of all the gunk that piles up over the years.

And FLyingNun, people do say to stick with what you have IF you are satisfied with the version you already have, in order to avoid the agony of program changing. lol

EDIT: When installing, there is the option for the upgrade to keep all of your programs and saved files, so you dont have to reinstall the whole shebang by yourself and tempt the devil with a small mistake that could send your computer into oblivion. lol But this depends on which version of XP/Vista you already have and which version of Vista/W7 you wish to install (both version need to be compatible like upgrade Vista Home Premium to W7 Home Premium).

*head hurts now*

I have XP. So I need to "upgrade" to Vista first? o_O

And I can choose to keep my programs and files? Including my precious, much-needed Microsoft Office?

I've been using the RC for over half a year. works alot better than vista. I bought an upgrade through my work for a nice cheap price smile.gif although I think windows 7 is just a paid service pack of windows vista with major improvements.

Yes, they do.

However, my laptop has Vista. And it starts up, gets on the Internet, manages my music/pictures, and lets me type papers for school. That's all I need it for, and that's all it does.

Yep, pretty much. lol
If you're doing the recommended update from Vista, the computer will save all of your files and it will be just like if you hadnt done a thing. However if you wish to update the custom way, you would need to store all of your saved files on an external hard drive then update to W7 and then reinstall all of your files. You would need to reinstall your programs though, and some of your saved computer games (eg sims) could be messed up for some reason.

So I recommend updating from Vista since its the simpler way. If you are doubtful in any way though I suggest you ask a professional to do the work. =)
