In a perfect world, no one would hit anyone else, but I got the idea from the "Girl code" thread and was wondering what the girls thought on this issue. I like numbers and raw data; that is why I made a poll.

My answer is "false". If a woman hits a man she should be faced with the same punishment as with a man hitting a woman, IMO.

Your thoughts on the subject? Please explain your answer.

No one should hit anyone. Self defense is different (and even then it should be avoided at all costs). I do have a slight double standard as i think it is *worse* for a man to hit a woman than the other way around (a men generally are stronger than women).

Of course, it all depends on the definition of "hitting"...as i said in the other thread, if Josiah is joking with me/teasing me i might swat him with the back of my hand, but with zero force behind it and be like "shush, you." i dont consider that hitting or slapping

False. Men and women should both hit back against anyone in self defence, regardless of gender, and neither should hit the other if not in self defence.
But the example Jessica gave doesn't count as hitting

But seriously, hitting never solves anything, unless it's for self-defense. There are other ways to release your anger. Like stabbing a pillow or throwing something hard and breakable against the wall.

I have slapped a guy but only because it was actually necessary in that situation. I would never do it if it wasn't.

A husband/boyfriend can abuse his wife/girlfriend. A wife/girlfriend can abuse her husband/boyfriend. It goes both ways. That whole equality between the sexes, remember that?
Self defense goes both ways, too.

I do not believe the sexes are equal in modern American society, with the feminist influence everywhere.
Feminism has been a very strong force the past 30 years, and it seems like society has been indoctrinated into thinking the woman always is either superior, should be given an advantage, or more rights (such as the right to abort without permission of the father, or the typical assumed mother`s custody of children in a divorce situation).

No woman has the right to hit a man, just like no man has a right to hit a woman. I have never used force against a guy and never plan to unless there are extreme circumstances.

Want to provide us with some illuminating statistics that say that affirmative action is working against men, and that in fact women are doing better in North American society while men get the short end of the stick? I think that would be fascinating as the only two examples have largely nothing to do with the feminist movement, and actually have to do with our societies patriarchical structure which denotes the caregiving role to women.

As for the poll, of course a man can hit a woman in self defence. I don't think "well she started it" is a good excuse to hit a woman, becuase it simply isn't a good excuse to hit anyone, however if you are in physical harm regardless of your gender you should fight back.

I don`t recall mentioning affirmative action. I do believe in the caregiving role of women though.

Women that hit men (physical violence) are JUST as disgusting to me as men that hit women. Just because women tend to be weaker does not give us some heavenly excuse to abuse others, even if we truly don't do much damage, the intent is still there.

I don't think ANYONE should hit back, unless the situation truly warrants self defense. If the person hits you and just walks away (or does not hit you again) you have no right to hit back. That goes for confrontations amongst females, amongst males, and any confrontation between opposite sexes. IF the situation warrants self defense, a man has every right to defend himself from his attacker, no matter if his attacker is male or female. And obviously, defending yourself doesn't mean beating the attacker to a pulp, it means saving yourself with whatever force is needed, but not using EXCESSIVE force.
