Sorry but that's not true. 1 Timothy 2:9 and 1 Peter 3:3 seem to forbid this. I don't see how those verses forbid wearing jewelry, especially 1 Peter 3:3. Maybe you should look up the definition of 'adorn' and reread the verses in context |

Why, I have a necklace... I'm wearing it right now, playing with it with my hands, reading the comments about my hell-boundness and smiling...

What those verses mean is simply don't try to look like everyone else just to look pretty. But let who you really are shine through. I for one wear alot of accessories. only because that is how I express who I am. and If it is a sin to wear jewelry I am deff. going to hell cuase I make jewelry. haha

no, it is not wrong to wear jewelry; however, I do view it as stupid when someone spends large sums of money on many pieces of jewelry. That money could have been much better spent or donated for charities and people that so desperately would cherish it.

As I've said before, I believe the verses mean:
1) Your beauty should come from the inside, not from the outside. 2) That wearing a limited amount of jewellery is fine, as long as it does not start to become the SOURCE of your beauty, or a distraction to it. |

I think it's sad when people reduce their spiritual life to "is this or that a sin?" I don't think that sort of mentality makes God happy. Just live as best you can, really, live in a way that makes everyone's life around you, including yours, as full as it can be, and then just die as best you can. There's nothing else to life but this.

I don't think wearing jewelery is something bad until it doesn't influence your mind..but wow..it's amazing how people try to control whether every single action they do is right according to the rules of religion..

The bible verses say: 1 Timothy 2: 9-10 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. and.... 1 Peter 3:3 -4 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. looking at the verses in context, the point being made isn't that we shouldn't wear jewlery.... just that beauty shouldn't come from outward things. Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart. I think thats true though...... I know people whom I think of as beautiful, because of their actions and attitudes..... nothing to do with their looks. (-: Well said. |

Hello everyone I am new. I thought I might be able to provide an interpretation. I think you should pray about it. Who better to interpret the Bible than its writer? We are to be a light unto the world, a light is not the same as everything around it. that would be glass. Are you wearing jewelry to be glass?? Which includes earrings. I ultimately do not know the definite answer, but I do know that God does not like vanity, or conceited behavior. I am sure that God wanted our bodies as they are. They are his temple. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Look it up. The Israelite people were required to remove jewelry before entering the promised land (Exodus 33:6). I am a Bible Christian. And I believe God never changes,
Whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God above, who created all heaven's lights. Unlike them, He never changes or casts shifting shadows (James 1:17). Malachi 3:6 (New King James Version) For I am the LORD, I do not change; Matthew 5:18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. So God doesn't change, obviously. And Being a Bible Christian, I have found it to be amazing that when interpreted with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Bible never conflicts itsself. So the Israelite people were really vain, right? And Jewelry could cause you to become vain too. I think all girls contain a certain amount of vanity.I think its wrong to modify our bodies, so we can be like the rest of the world. The reason God made our bodies a certain way, is because He wanted it that way. The only purpose of jewelry is to give the wearer the illusion, that she/he is exalted above those who don't wear jewelry. I'm not taking this to an extreme level, but there is a certain amount of that feeling. I've experienced it firsthand. And I think that we are to Honor God, by keeping ourselves clean, and beautifying our insides, rather than our exterior. God looks at the heart. If you are worried about those who look at your outside, and need to feel secure by adorning yourself with materials, you should only worry about your heart. A true boyfriend would not give a care if you didn't wear jewelry. True friends won't either. If you wear it because it has a certain meaning to you, and NOTHING ELSE, I believe that is between you and God. Ask Him about it, because ultimately, this is me speaking, not God Himself. Another thing, a lot of you were just debating on opinion. Know your Bibles, Sunday Law Comes Soon. |

Bible Christian Here. God Changes NOT.
Matthew 5:18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Malachi 3:6 I am the Lord Thy God. I Change Not. So God Doesn't Change. Exodus 33:6 So the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by Mount Horeb. God doesn't like vanity, or conceited behavior. Can you Image Jesus wearing jewelry? Maybe a watch, if they existed, to tell the time. But for the sheer purpose of making Himself "look Good" I don't think He would. We are to be a light unto the world. When you wear jewelry, are you wearing it to be a light to others? or to be like glass? (be like everyone else) Honestly, you need to talk to God about it, and read you Bible, and study the context of these verses. Pray about it, and God Bless. Its important to know your Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: And there is no scripture that says the law was done away with. The Bible is ONE, God Never Changes. I am a Bible Christian, and the Bible alone. I Keep the Seventh Day Sabbath, I don't eat pork, I believe in keeping my body clean, worshiping God on the right day, (Yes it matters. If it doesn't, why Did Cain's sacrifice become rejected?) and I believe Jesus will come after the enforcement of Sunday law. I am very happy that I know the only messages I believe are from the Bible. |

In the Old Testament, the people used to decorate the temples of God. But in the New Testament it tells us we are the temple of God, so I see nothing wrong with decorating ourselves, but in a way that honors God. But we also must keep in mind that what we put on the outside isn't what truly matters. |

When I look at most Christian women their adornments and clothing shine through way more than their good deeds. It seems exactly what this verse is warning about. Women who I see all the time trying to be beautiful because of what they look like not because of what they do.
Some people said it had to do with intent. The verse says that it shouldn't be wear your beauty comes from but most of the time the intent of a women doing her hair, wearing nice clothing, and wearing jewlry is for the purpose of beauty. Some people said it is OK as long as its not obsession. I dont really see where it says you can do this sometimes just not obsesively. Also a lot of women wont go anywhere withought makeup; some wont go anywhere without doing their hair. That seems kinda obsessive. QUOTE just that beauty shouldn't come from outward things. Most of the time the purpose of the clothing a women chooses her jewrly and her hair is for the purpose of beauty. Obviously people have rings and jewrly that arn't for beuty but most things seem to be for that purpose. I don't see where these verses say you can dress with expensive clothes, gold and pearls as long as in your mind your beauty is coming from within. I don't really understand how you can explain something away because in your mind it should be a certain way. I know some people have looked into these verses to find explanations but it seems a lot of people would passover something like this just because they think it's ridiculous. I don't see where it says it is ever ok. Only that it is not ok. If God wanted there to be no confusion he could have said. "Go ahead and wear expensive clothes, gold, and jewelry, but your beauty should come from actually clothing yourself with good deeds as well as expensive adornments. QUOTE 1 Timothy 2: 9-10

These verses in my opinion is that who we are should be our spirit on the inside. Not the Jewels we wear on the outsde.

agreeing with afroman. the Bible also says that men arent to wear earrings because in old days men had like a pole thing driven through there ear to proclaim them selves slaves and we arent slaves if we are saved. we are bought and paid for.
it isnt wrong for a Christian to wear jewelery as long as they r modest. and braiding your hair is not a one way ticket to Hell. and as for the person who put they dont eat pork, food is not a restriction in the Bible. God told either peter or paul that they could eat meat. |

I'm not sure about what the Bible says about jewelry, but I think many religious conservatives will agree that jewelry in excess can lead to immodesty or trying to show off yourself, which wouldn't be allowed. It's like overloading on makeup, or dressing a little crazy, it shouldn't be done in public for all the world to see.
