I'm looking at a school I love, where a ton of my friends go, but it is almost 2000 miles away. Is that completely ridiculous?

My college is 35 miles from home. I commute.

2,000 miles away? Wow. But I think the only thing ridiculous is going to be the cost of traveling between home and college. o_o

I have no idea in terms of miles as we don't use them. My school is about a 6 hour drive and a 5 hour train ride. I have friends who live in hawaii who go to my school, yay 25 hour plane ride, so I don't think you wanting to go far away is ridiculous at all.

Well, I have a family member who works for the airlines so I can fly standby for free.

Wow! That sounds crazy to me! I don't mean in a bad way, just that I couldn't do it. I'm 400 miles (about a 7 hour drive) from home, and I can handle it pretty well, but it's a hassle getting back home. One of my roommates is from England though (our school's in Texas) so she has it worse than I do, and she sometimes has trouble finding a place to stay over holidays since she can't always go home, and she also has trouble with moving in/out of the dorms each year...but if that school is where you want to go, go! I came to my university even when there's one 5 minutes from my house!

I don't know the exact mileage, but it takes almost exactly two hours to get to my school from my house.

Approx. 1700 miles distance but from a sociological standpoint, the two aren't even on the same planet.

I have several friends who have studied abroad over seas in Europe and Asia. It's not all that unusual to travel that far for school if you can afford it. But I'd suggest if you do it you do it because you love the school enough to travel and not only because you have friends there.

Oh, and I go to school about 170 miles from home. Looking at possibly jumping across the country for grad school though.

My college is 381.41 miles away from home.

If you love the college you're going to, and you don't think you could get the same education anywhere else... go for it. Plus where you said you can fly stand-by for free- that's an awesome bonus.

Mine is about 2 hours 30 minutes away by car. It is the perfect distance IMO. Not too close, not too far.
