How many books have you read?

I have read hundreds of books. My favorites are the Maximum Ride Series, James Rollins Sigma Force Novels, anything by Frank Peretti. The worst book I ever read I've forgotten the title of, but it was a beauty and the beast re-write where the beast was a tiger and .... it was basically bestiality. Written for teenagers. Under the disguise of romance. It was gross.

If prayer works then why go to a doctor

Sounds like she's addicted? Do you know if she's trying to get help? Have you ever talked to her about how her being drunk makes you feel? Kids can have a massive impact on parents sometimes. If she's not abusive ( doesn't hit or yell at you when she's been drinking) maybe it's worth a try--just let her know. Something as simple as "I wish you could take me to school more often so we can spend time together" might encourage her to make a change. The tricky part of addictions is that in order to stop, you have to want to, or have to let the Lord work on you to help you get free, but if someone doesn't WANT freedom, for whatever reason, then, they're making terrible choices. And as I said before, God doesn't over throw our free will. He'll nudge in the right direction, cause things to happen to help us change our minds so our circumstances change among other things; but He won't over-ride our free will. I understand. When I was 13 and I found my parents were divorcing, I only wanted one thing-things to stay the same. Like, yeah, my dad could be scary, but at least scary was familiar. Either way, situations can change, prayer does work, though not always in the ways we expect. Hang in there girlie. Jesus is there for you, and I am too.

If prayer works then why go to a doctor

I have been in that place so. so. so many times. My father was abusive and I've had so many battles because of it. I've been in those dark places too, Lily, where it feels like you're just screaming a brick wall and God doesn't answer. You're filled with all those questions, why this, why that, why me? If God is good then why do I hurt so much? When will I stop hurting? When will my circumstances change? I can relate so much, sweetheart. We have prayer, yes, but what humans also have is free will, Free will to perform various actions, some which glorify God and some that can negatively impact others. God doesn't stop us from having free will. So your mother's drinking is her own free will at play and sadly it is negatively impacting you. Like my father enacting his free will to hit me. God can work on her heart so she quits, but he's not going to take that free will away from any human being. That is not how He operates I feel like I should mention, in addition to everything Kite said, that despite how people talk about prayer, it's not like rubbing a magic lamp. Genies don't pop out and cater to our every whim instantly. It's not like wishing on a star and getting a miracle in the morning, either. TV and movies make it seem that way, but that's not how it works. Our prayers are to build our relationship with God, to communicate with our creator, to build patience and other character traits as we grow closer to Him. He wants to hear our wants and needs, but he grants them in His own timing. I know the waiting hurts, I know it feels futile at times, but it is worth it. If you can pull through the trial by pressing into him, you'll grow, despite your sucky, sucky circumstances. You're certainly not alone. Even when it FEELS like you're alone, God is right there, beside you, coaxing you through as your life unfolds. If you ever need someone to talk to, send me a message, okay? I know what it's like to have a sucky parent. Praying for you!

  11. I know that this is heckin' old, but I simply couldn't let it slide. I worked out about 20 hours a week this summer and still wanted to throw myself off of the nearest bridge the entirety of July. :\ Please, tell me, was I simply not working out enough? 20 hours a week wasn't suitable? I lacked the energy to enjoy myself. After working out, I'd shower and just lay on the couch and cry. I was in so much emotional pain that I was unable to do the things that made me happy. When someone feels that way, sometimes the simplest tasks are hard to do. Brushing your hair, your teeth, getting out of bed, remembering to stay hydrated can all be a challenge for the depressed human. You can't just watch 3 stupid cat videos on youtube and "get over it." Your advice isn't the best for those struggling with depression. I advise you to do more research on the subject. One does not simply "stay happy" when one's mental hormones are messed up. So while a healthy lifestyle can ease the symptoms of depression, it is not a cure all. Typically it takes the triple punch of meds, therapy/counseling and healthy living to make it bearable and all of those are PARAMOUNT to maintaining mental health. (if you have been prescribed meds, that is. I have not--my spiral was caused by lousy circumstances) The way your brain is wired is not a sin. Your sad circumstances are not a sin. You do yourself a disservice by not getting the help you need, but that isn't a sin.

This place is so quiet its spooky

It's back to school season in the US, which is where most of our active members are from. It's pretty typical for forums to quiet down this time of year and pick up in winter, when it's too cold to do much else. You'll see it fluctuates, CTF has been around since 2003, and we;re in the middle of revamping. You'll see small spikes in activity as features change and new topics are addressed. But, I will admit, it's busiest here in summer, as most of us have more free time. Welcome aboard!
  13. I think you should stick to pets.

How would you handle these situations?

Car scenario? Not sure. Definitely go after my kid. Dogs have instincts and as cruel as it sounds, can be replaced. As for the restaurant, I'd probably see if I could swing a free or discounted meal for the inconvenience.
  15. I hear her voice, in the morning hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And driving down the road I get a feeling
That I should have been home yesterday...
    COUNTRY ROOOOOADS,... TAKE ME HOOOOOMMME.

  16. Okay ya'll, if you wanna roleplay out a giant bird kidnapping you, we have a forum for that. ;D
  17. Anything from Sherwood pictures in AMAZING. Facing the Giants, Fireproof, War Room and of them. THEY. ARE. GREAT. I don't have a favorite re-telling. Hollywood likes to dramatize and wreck things.
  18. I've read both. There's beauty in each. I'm not sure if I've read both equally, but I've studid both testaments. Both of them are integral to our walk so...-shrug-

    Harry Potter

Someone once told me I was a Hufflepuff. Which I thought they were referring to a Jigglypuff and those are adorable so, I took it as a compliment. Growing up. my mom had banned the books and movies from the house. (The '90s was a weird decade) so I never read or watched any of it. Last year though, I binge read the entire series. It was pretty good. Peeves was my favorite character.
  25. I regret all the naps I didn't take in childhood.
