    Hey! I'm new!

Welcome to CTF! Would you mind pm'ing an Admin or Moderator about your concerns. If there is something that has been overlooked we'll be sure to look into it.

    How to NOT Procrastinate?

All good points. Trueimage, if you're me you get a large coffee, find out what it is you need to do and do it. Problem is, you probably won't reap the glories of coffee until you're in College/Uni.
  3. Some people have experienced emotional problems with their families and friends in the U.S because they chose to follow Jesus. No doubt this is a serious issue when it happens, even if they aren't being murdered for their Faith. Josh, I think it's best you stop debating peoples replies here, if you would like to bring a debate to the debate room about how "Jesus wasn't talking about little things like family disputes and lost friendships" feel free. This is not the place for it as a friend here is looking for advice, and people are doing their best to help her.
  4. Thank you very much Mark!

  5. I notice the MLB and NFL are on it but the NHL and NBA are not. I wonder what the reason is for this?
  6. Hey there, and welcome to CTF! The best advice I can give you based on the wording of your post is to remember that Jesus knew full well that people will hate you, critisize you and make you feel like less of a person for loving Him. There is no special saying I can give you to make you believe, all I can do is ask you to pray, learn your Bible and be ready for persecution.

    Jesus > Religion

When you say that Heavenly Religion is love, what do you say Earthly Religion is in rgards to Christianity?

    The 6000 year creation belief.

What I mean is that it is important as a Christian to have Faith in the resurrection despite a lack of evidence, even if scientifically people don't come back to life 3 days after death. It is not however important to believe the Earth is 6000 years old despite evidence.

    Hi, I'm Krista and I'm new. :D

Your punctuation is stellar for a 13 year old! Welcome to CTF, I was in a similar situation and accepted Jesus without my parents when I was about twelve. Although, neither of my parents were really Christian at all. Hope this place helps you!

    The 6000 year creation belief.

Jesus conquering death is the basis for our Salvation. It was important that Jesus be resurrected so that He could conquer death and ascend to Heaven. This is the point I'm trying to make, when resurrection happens in the Bible it serves a purpose, however the belief that the Earth is 6000 years old serves no purpose.

    The 6000 year creation belief.

For one to be a Christian they must have some Faith in the impossible, and yes it is indeed impossible (imo) that the Earth is 6000 years old. But I still ask why it was important for God to make it appear as if the Universe is billions of years old if it's only a few thousand?

    The 6000 year creation belief.

Correct me if I'm wrong Matt, but I have read before that the 120 years can be interprited as the time before the great flood. Is there any validity behind this?

    The 6000 year creation belief.

With this arguement we must then ask, "why would God do this then?" If it is as you say, simply a miracle, God showing to us all that He can create everything 6000 years ago and yet make it appear much, much older, then why? All it does is cause mass confusion and as our knowledge of this Earth grows, it will cause a greater confusion. You could argue that we simply don't know the answer, but then basically you will be saying, "God makes the Earth appear way older, there is no proof of this, we don't know why, but it's true because the Bible says so." Which in my opinion is a weak arguement. Also, you could argue that God did this to test our faith, but again I must say I believe such an arguement has very little strength. Or, you could argue a metaphorical approach to Genesis which then fits all Science and in my opinion gives greater validity to Christianity.

    The 6000 year creation belief.

It is true that God could have created a complete Universe including, Stars, Planets, Light, Evolution, Fossils and the ability for us to discover these things and the mathimatical estimated age of these things. However, all this does is cause confusion. It seems strange that God would create everything in a way that mathimatically proves the Universe's age is much higher than 7000 years if that isn't actually the case. What is the purpose for this? For generations to come children will be taught that the Earth is "X" years old, they will learn about the Universe, it's expansion and everythings continual, consistant evolution. I'm not sure what things are like in some parts of the states, as I have not seen the Kindergarten classes there. But as a Kindergarten teacher I notice our books about dinosaurs talk about how they lived 65,000,000 years ago. If it is as you say, why would God create fossils of dinosaurs dating back 65,000,000 years from now at creation? What purpose does this serve?

    The 6000 year creation belief.

To me it is the most legitimate reason to take Genesis metaphorically. Assuming that the stars created by our Lord that are, "X" light-years away but due to observation no longer exist show it's light to earth now, how can we explain the light just showing to Earth now? After observing these stars there are certain things we do know: 1. The stars no longer exist 2. The light from the stars is just reaching earth. (And will continue to be shown on earth for millions of years, if the Earth lasts that long.) 3. The stars used to exist billions of years ago, but due to the time it takes light to travel (light-years) we only get to see the stars now. Had Earth existed billions of years ago, we would not see these stars. 4. The light will continue traveling past Earth, and if there was life on planets a longer distance away, these stars would be viewable from those Planets. So now we have a problem, it seems that if all of this is true, God placed the stars light-years away and yet makes it look scientifically that they existed billions of years ago. No one can deny that we can see the stars, no one can deny that the stars no longer exist, and no one can deny that mathimatically that makes the stars billions of years old. Now perhaps God put the stars there to "look like" they existed billions of years ago, but really there were never really stars there, just evidence of stars. But would this not seem like God is using physical science and mathimatics to trick us?

    Jesus > Religion

They were Jewish my friend. So essentially you're saying that Christians who put themselves at a higher standard than others by considering themselves more Righteous are the ones that don't have Jesus in their heart? I suppose this I can agree with, there are many self-righteous Christians out there who I can see as Religious but I couldn't judge whether or not they have, "Jesus in their heart" as you stated.

    The 6000 year creation belief.

All of these comparisons are true, they don't do all of these things on their own. But if God was to create the Universe in seven days He wouldn't leave ample amounts of evidence that shows the Earth and the Universe's age can go into the trillions. Again, some of the Stars that we see in the sky no longer exist, but the lightyears it takes to reach Earth is only showing now. It's as if God is trying to trick us with all of this evidence that points to a much older Earth.

    Jesus > Religion

How do you suppose one can be Religious without being Christian unless they adhere to another Religion? Unless you're talking about how some claim to be Christian but arent, but those people arent Religious. I'm simply confused on how a Christian could be Religious in a way that is not proper. Unless you're thinking of a denomination that doesnt suit you?

    Jesus > Religion

So essentially, when one goes to Church, follows the 10 commandments and does good things, it is possible to do these things without Jesus in their heart, and ontop of that if they do add Jesus in their heart they reach a "different level" of religious?
  20. Perhaps you could ask him for the passages that go against such conduct and then share it with us? I would like to know how one comes to the conclusion that dying their hair is sinful.

    Jesus > Religion

He most definately is sincere, but I don't like when Christians spread this idea that Christianity is not a Religion to other Christians. Not only does it have the non-Religious wondering why in the world a clearly Religious set of beliefs are being claimed as, "Non Religious" but it contradicts Scripture and the definition of what Religion is.

    Welcome to another year, CTF

"Not sure where to go in life? Are you struggling with cutting, pornography, drug abuse or another issue? The staff here at CTF will do their best to give you a hand. If you'd like to post here, send a PM to one of our dedicated counselors" I think this sounds about right when it comes to mental health issues, including stress, suicidal thoughts, etc. Haley, what you want to do is make topics such as, Autism, ADHD, etc open for everyone to post about? Although I think it's a good idea in theory, I don't think we would need a whole sub forum dedicated to those specific exceptionalities. It would make for a good thread though for people to post their thoughts on the topic, I know threads show up often on people having troubles in life and need some advice.

    Jesus > Religion

James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. Christianity is a Religion no doubt.
