  1. So in Mark 16 there are extra passages that have been added to the Bible. Verses 9 through 20 are in none of the original manuscripts and are believed by nearly all scholars to have been added at a later date. How do I defend my belief that the Bible is the inerrant word of God to muslims and non believers when they bring up this fact to me?
  2. I suppose one could always submit an article to an admin and have it discussed by the moderating staff. I doubt CTF has the member capacity for multiple articles from multiple members though. So I don't see this working here.
  3. You certainly had enough time to bump a year old thread! haha. This never happened I don't think.

    The book of John.

Yup! You have discovered the rocket launcher to defend Christianity from heresies!
  5. A common misconception in Christianity. James 1:26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. Blessings!
  6. God said let there be light on day 1, separated darkness from light and had "evening and morning, day 1" without a sun, moon, stars, rotation of the earth and nothing to judge evening and morning by, and then created the sun on day four? Also, apparently on day three God created vegetation and seed bearing plants and whatnot, went on to create mankind and said to be fruitful and multiply on day six but then apparently made Adam before any plant had yet sprung up? (Genesis 2:5) Either these are extremely strong contradictions within two chapters or they're not meant to be taken literally.
  7. Luke 18:10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ 14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” You realize you're a sinner and you are unworthy of Heaven. We are all unworthy of Heaven, so when you acknowledge such a fact it is pleasing to God. Perhaps it might help you if you continue in your realization that you're unworthy of Heaven and deserve Hell (as do the rest of us) but your Faith in Jesus Christ will still save you.

    How to Kill My Calvinism

Are you saying God would find it more glorifying to Him if He just created us all with the intent to glorify Him from the beginning? Doesn't it bring more glory to God if we are made to choose to worship Him rather than being forced to?

    Christian 'teen' forums.

I find a lot of the topics seem so teenish when you get older so you visit a little less frequently. But us oldies still linger.

Is it ok to be a liberal christian?

Sometimes we need to render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and render to God the things that are God's. (Luke 20:25) But sometimes when it's a spiritual matter of the life of a human being, it's important for us to stand up against killing unborn children. I just like to let homosexuals know how much I love them the way Christ commands us to. If more Christians showed love to homosexuals there would be more homosexual Christians which would lead to repentance.

    Salvation of Old Testament Saints

Hm... now this begs the question on what Jesus was really up to in the days that He was dead. When He preached to disobedient spirits in prison did He also speak to the righteous? It is possible that Jesus preached to those in Abraham's bosom presented in Luke 16? If Salvation is through Christ alone, perhaps He gave some in prison the chance to receive Salvation through Him before He ascended to Heaven. I think Luke 16 is the best example I can give of this, but despite that I believe we can have full confidence that the righteous will dwell in Heaven.

Do you believe that one is "saved" the instant they accept Christ? The interesting thing about all the passages on believing in Christ is that it says that they shall be saved, or will eventually come to salvation. Therefore I believe that if one believes in Christ, he shall be saved, but if he drops that belief in Christ, he shall not be saved when the last day comes.

how do I defend the ending to mark?

Actually, there is a third option. I could quote Iraneus who quotes the ending of Mark as we have it now. After doing some research it was silly of me to doubt the ending of Mark. It turns out the ending of Mark has clearly existed since at least the second century. Here is Iraneus in 177ad:" Also, towards the conclusion of his Gospel, Mark says: "So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God;"There are also others who quote the end of Mark. The only problem is we don't have it in our earliest manuscripts, which is okay because it's been quoted like crazy in early centuries. God forgive my disbelief.
  14. Hey guys, I need some help with numbers 23 19*"God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? If Jesus has always existed and is the son of man and son of God, can someone explain this?

"God is not a man or son of man"

Okay, but the confusing part here is where it says God is not a son of man. Didn't Jesus who is also fully God call Himself the son of man?

    The End Times

Sometimes this is the best answer.
  17. Can somebody please explain what this means: Psalm 110:1 Of David. A psalm. The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." Matthew 22:44 "'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet."' Acts 2:34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, "'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand So Jesus quotes Psalm 110 to prove a point, but I don't fully understand the point He is trying to prove. It is also quoted in the book of acts to show the legitimacy of Christ's divinity from what I've been reading all over the web but I still don't get it. So the first "Lord" means God am I right? And the second Lord is who? Gah, I'm just a bit lost on this one. I tried reading the whole thing: matthew 22:41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” “The son of David,” they replied. 43 He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says, 44 “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.”’[e] 45 If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” 46 No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions. So David calls the second Lord, "Lord" and he is referring to Jesus even though it is his son. Is that right? ---------- Post added at 12:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:11 AM ---------- Okay, I think I've got it. Basically the text says: God said to my master sit at my right hand, etc. It's a prophesy of Jesus Christ, and David called Jesus Lord even though Jesus would be a son of David. Normally it wouldn't make sense for a man to call his son, "Lord" and that's why it shut the pharisee's up. I think I got this, I just had to write about it first lol.

My head is exploding with questions...

What is God saying? Jesus asked why He is being called "good" when Jesus is clearly good, as demonstrated throughout Mark. He is proclaimed to be the Son of God throughout Mark as well. The best answer I can give is that He is asking the man why that man specifically calls Him good if the man doesn't believe Jesus is the Son of God. If Jesus is not the Son of God, then the man would have no reason to call Jesus "good." Because Jesus is the Son of God and the man doesn't believe so, he asks why the soldier specifically called Jesus, "good." I hope I didn't confuse you, anyways take a look at a few more passages from Mark. 1:11 And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased." 3:11Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God." 9:7Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!" 1:23-27 "Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, ‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are - the Holy One of God!’ ‘Be quiet!’ said Jesus sternly. ‘Come out of him!’ The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, What is this? A new teaching - and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him." Another pretty stellar verse is Jesus claiming He is Lord of the Sabbath. Mark 2:28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. I could keep going if you ask me to, but I hope that's sufficient enough evidence from Mark. From a literal perspective they were all babies and God helped gather them. Certainly Islam is nothing like Christianity, and the goals in Christianity are nothing like that of Islam. Do you have any Religion in mind that you're talking about? I still have trouble believing that when God said, "Be fruitful and multiply" to all of humanity that only Adam and Eve existed, I'm sure there were others.

    Need help with a parable

Hey everyone, in Matthew 22 Jesus tells a parable of a wedding feast. I understand most of it, but I don't get why the man dressed improperly for the feast was thrown out. Can anyone explain Matthew 22:11? This is a "Man who was called but wasn't chosen" (22:14) Does the lack of wedding clothes represent someone who was called but did not accept Christ? ---------- Post added at 07:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:34 PM ---------- Gah, I'm also quite confused by Matthew 22:43. I don't understand the arguement Jesus is trying to make.
  25. Hi everyone, for anyone that cares I thought I would update on where I have been and why i disappeared for so long. I live in Ontario, Canada and I moved to New Brunswick for a month to try living with a girl I thought would be my future wife. I thought God had a plan for me and I thought I was following it... Why we turned out to be completely incompatible is beyond me, but I'm back in Ontario. I've been on anti depressants for some time now, and the depression has gotten worse. I don't see it getting better any time soon and the only thing keeping me alive is that I'm too afraid that if I killed myself I wouldn't go to Heaven. It's sad isn't it. I plan on going to University where I will hopefully gain a new life experience and won't feel this way anymore. I'm also going to a cognitive behavioural therapy group where people like myself discuss ways to feel better about themselves. All I know is that there must be things to look forward to, so I'll just keep on pushing. I wish God would show me where I'm supposed to go and how to not feel this way anymore.
