    Body modification

Is it sinning? After all, God made your body the way it is. If you have curly hair, and use straighteners, aren't you saying to God 'I don't like the way you made me - with curly hair - so I'm going to change it'? Same with girls (and some boys) who paint their nails. That's basically saying 'I don't like the fact that my nails are made the colour they are, so I'm going to change that'. To be honest, even fake tan ould be considered a sin!
  2. I've always thought it was about God. Jon certainly seems like a Christian, and I find it hard to believe he'd co-write a song about how he needs someone other that God alone to be fulfilled... But, there's certainly no problem with a song by a man about how another man makes him feel on fire. Did not Jonathan and David have such an intimate relationship? Indeed, Christians are called, regardless of their sex, to have a burning, intimate, close relationship with the ideal human, the man Jesus Christ.

    Christian Goth

Well, it *is* a troll site. Praise Jesus! Anyway, I agree with JAG. Everyone needs to hear the Gospel, and if a particular way of dressing (provided it's modest of course, and you're not "flirting for Jesus"...) will help you get near to them, then go for it. In the end, we'll all be dressed in white anyway. But if you're dressing that way simply to try to fit in... it's not sinful, but it doesn't mean it's healthy.

    Michelle Duggar Miscarries

Granted, she ought to have given up before - I think being unable to deliver a child naturally is a good sign from God that you ought to stop. It still doesn't take away from the fact that they've lost a child, though. I do wonder what they'll do if their children have moderately sized families - say 4-6 - though, given that that would mean they'd have may 100 grandchildren in the next few decades, and when they become great-grandparents, they'd have a full nation on their hands...

    I'm Feminine?

No! I refuse....! Personally, I just try to ignore this crap about Masculine and Feminine things. The way I see it, we're human beings, who individually ought to be capable of the full range things that humans are capable of doing and being on their own - obviously, we need a relationships to fully be ourselves, given that that's what we were created for, but... The point is, I don't see why enjoying shooting a gun means I can't enjoy being pretty. Gar. Maybe I'll just go off and mope around for a few years until the world caves in and wrongs are made right.

Pat Robertson: "GOP Base is too extreme"

That's because Ron Paul is a Paleoconservative, who actually believes what he says about small government. He's a libertarian basically. Stange how classical liberals and paleoconservatives are very similar politically, but neoconservatives and neoliberals are poles apart...

What beloved institutions do you disagree with?

Is this a debate about marriage? What is this thread for, exactly? The OP doesn't explain it very well..

    I need help!

But they do...? What show is this, exactly? Okay, first thing you need to do is make sure you are grounded in scripture.

    Underage Sex

Just how young are we talking? If they're old enough to enter into the marriage covenant, they're old enough... Well, forum says mintchocochip is female, and assuming mintchocochip is telling the truth, I'm not sure I agree with same-sex marriage... :> But, assuming you meant "on a deserted island with the opposite sex", I don't understand why you'd want to have sex with them. You're either going to get rescued, in which case you can wait, or not, in which case you will live the rest of your lives on the island. With no contraception, so you're probably going to end up with children. Who are then going to live their - single - lives on the island, because they'll be no one for them to marry... except their siblings, which would probably result in your grandchildren dying a painful death from a genetic disorder... :p
  11. Why is this controversial news? It doesn't appear to be that the parents are forcing Jackie to be a girl... Granted, there may be neurological differences between men and women, which are reflected in transgendered individuals - however, I should imagine that there will then be transgendered individuals with a brain-sex the same as their physical-sex, which will be a truly interesting test case. Almost as interesting as a genderless nursery, to observe the results. I, personally, don't have a problem with this - or with delaying Jackies puberty until they are older - as long as no lasting changes are made prior to them reaching an age at which they can better make the choice, at which point Jackie may prefer to be a man. Or a woman.

    NEVER REMARRY!

However, if the spouse remarries, have they not committed adultery? Therefore, surely that counts as sexual immorality, which would allow for a full divorce, one in which they can remarry? Remarriage of the former spouse removes all possibility of reconciliation; they are free to remarry.

    NEVER REMARRY!

What if there is no possibility for reconciliation without further divorce - one of them has remarried already? If one has remarried, then have they not committed adultery - sexual immorality - and so their former partner is free? Certainly, if there is a chance of reconciliation, I am against it, and my position is one I feel is backed up by Scripture. If one partner remarries, however, the other is free to do likewise.

WHO says swine flu pandemic is over

When I saw it on BBC News 24 today, scrolling across the bottom all in caps, I thought it said that the "Hini Flu" had run it's course. I want it back. It outcompeted the other flu variants, thus reducing the deathtoll.

    4 year old tortured

Stuff like this makes me wish I had a time machine. How did we get like this?
  17. The human race went through a genetic bottleneck in which there were only about 10,000 individuals left, and in isiolated groups. We survived. If the group is sufficiently large, only breeding inside that group isn't much of an isse. When cousin marriage becomes an issue is - only - when it's carried on down the generations, as I've pointed out before.
  18. Don'y you mean "small isolated groups?" If it's a relatively large isolated group - say about 1000 people - there's not likely to be any trouble for the next few millennia at the least. No, problems only tend to crop up, assuming they didn't inherit any diseases from their grandparents, when it's first cousins getting married who's parents were cousins - e.g. two cousin pairings from the same family (so that the children's uncle would be their uncle by both marriage and being their parents brother, for instance) who then decide to marry their cousins from that same convulated family tree.
  19. JMO? I fail to see any moral objection to cousins having children together. If God had taken issue, he would have stated so. It can't even be derived from any first principles, either.

A.C.T.A you guys need to know what this is

Don't you just hate it when governments vote themselves more power? I counter that the internet itself constitutes a statelike entity, and thus can regulate it's own affairs via a government elected directly by the users. Or rather, the organisations that are the de facto governments of the Internet (ICANN etc) are to be held as the bodies responsible for regulating trade and content.

13 Ways to Spend $1 Trillion

I really, really wish that self-called Keynesians would at least do what Keynes suggested, even though I disagree with Keynsian economics, and spend the money on megaprojects. Like refilling dried up great lakes to improve precipitation patterns, and building a space-based infrastructure.
  23. Old news. It's been known for quite a long time there isn't that significant a risk, as long as they are the first generation doing it. And there's never been any risk with close relatives getting married; it's when they have kids that problems arise Though, I don't have any 1st cousins I'd want to marry. 2-3rd cousins once removed (is that how you say it when they're the grandchild of your grandparents, i.e. the children of your mothers cousins?)? Perhaps, although I've only met one female cousin who fits that description... Good news for isolated colonies, and Norfolk.

    Aliens. (Not an immigration thread)

I'm an optimist - I believe we're the only intelligent life in, at the least, our galaxy, and as such have both authority over and responsibility to it. We are called to be forerunners. Yes, my belief is that creation is a gift from God to humanity, and we have been anointed it's caretakers. I also agree with Fermi: if there's intelligent life out there, they'd have been here by now. Even if they consider the cost of interstellar travel to high to justify physical travel, they'd certainly know there's life here (space telescopes, if built large enough, can resolve arbitarily small features). Given that they'd have nothing to worry about us invading them, they could always beam messages to planets they know have life. Then again, there's aways the possibility that they never advanced all that far, maybe even returning to the water ala dolphins. Mankind went for 100k years doing the same thing over and over again; it was only when some were forced out of Africa that they began to culturally evolve. However, given the huge timespans involved (o the order of 10s of millions of years), there's probably about the same probability that we're the ones who took longer to develop (apes and angels; use google if you need to). Maybe we share the galaxy with several other intelligent species. Perhaps. We certainly share Terra with a few (Dolphins, for example).

    Soul survivour!XD

Stafford for Week A, Shepton Mallet for Week B, C, and Momentum. Week A's just been; the others are happening in the next few weeks. It's been the best - and weirdest - soul survivor I've had, and I've been 5 times before. When I go next year, I hope (and pray) to go in the midst of a revival (yes, praying for revival is one of the things God's laid on my heart).
