I am Awesomerad (super old username, I'm surprised I even remembered my login details) I was here in 2009, back in 2013. I am 20 and Australian, (Yes, I have an Australian accent and I would laugh at most of your attempts to copy it) and right now, I am procrastinating when I should be putting together a publication for Beach Mission in 26 days!

I don't know if many Americans or British people care that much about Australian politics, but we've just had a Federal election. The Liberal Party of Australia has won and now Tony Abbott is the Prime Minister. The now opposition, the Australian Labor Party, had its lowest primary vote since the second world war. The former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said he will not contest the leadership of the Labor Party, so it will likely go to Bill Shorten or maybe Anthony Albanese. Although I am not a huge fan of either side of politics, I am happy with this result as I prefer the Liberal Party to the ALP, and most Australians believe the ALP have done a terrible job "leading" the country over the past 6 years. http://www.news.com.au/national-news/federal-election/kevin-rudd-concedes-labor-beaten-making-tony-abbott-prime-minister/story-fnho52ip-1226714373385 http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/09/07/22/20/abbott-takes-to-stage-to-claim-victory

I just realized there isn't a thread for this. So here it is =D Discuss all things to do with the election. At the moment there is a hung parliament!!!! Labor and the coalition are trying to make deals with the independents to form a minority government but only time will tell what happens. They might even decide to call another election. We may end up with the most unstable government since WW2! I'm not much of a politics buff so if someone can explain whats happening so it makes more sense that would be appreciated =P Some good sites: http://www.abc.net.au/elections/federal/2010/ http://www.news.com.au/features/federal-election
