    Now Playing...

On another forum I saw this Post the song you are currently listening to. Feel free to leave a link Innocent - Taylor Swift
  2. So this is just a little chat for fun. But I was wondering if y'all have songs you guys like, that aren't considered Christian Music genre, but have Christian meanings. Like often country artist will have a song with Christian meanings and gospel truths. For instance: Savior's Shadow by Blake Shelton (Such a gospel truth and smooth, slow sound, I thought it was his cover of an old hymn) "Though the devil tries to break me, my sweet Jesus won't forsake me. When I'm in my Savior's shadow I'm where I'm supposed to be." I Got Friends That Do by Tim McGraw (Last minute of the song) "And I may not know, what it's like, to send my only Son to save the world and watch Him die. And I may not know, how it feels, to hang their on the cross to prove that love is real. But I got friends that do." Whiskey on my Breath by Love and Theft (About one of the two guys in the duo and his struggle with alcohol) Chorus: Oh I know that I'm going to heaven, but I can't go being like this. I need to pull myself together before then. No I ain't afraid of dying, but what scares me to death, is meeting Jesus with Whiskey on my breath." Walk the Line by Johnny Cash Many don't know this isn't a love song. When Cash first got accepted to a record label, they didn't want another gospel singer because that's half of what there was back then; people singing the same hymns but different artist. Cash didn't want to just ignore his faith in his music, so he made a song with secret meanings for God. "Because you're mine, I walk the line," meaning "because I am a follower of Christ I keep myself together and behave." Just a fun little topic I love discussing

    Jazzy's Music Room

***this is the year of following dreams*** As you know, I plan to pursue my music career full time. With this, I am planning a few things. 1. When I turn 18, I will make a paypal and open up a fund where you can donate to my cause. I appreciate the simplest $1 toward my dreams coming true. 2. I will be making the album booklet and cover MYSELF. It is way too expensive to buy this stuff from a second party when I can buy something easily in bulk from a department store and I know graphic design basics. 3. I will be releasing my debut EP to BANDCAMP. It is a simple place to start and I make 85-90% of the profits. 4. Digital copies of the EP will be $5, with bandcamp you can give me more IF YOU SO DESIRE. Minimum will be $5 though. 5. Physical copies will be available, depending on the cost of me buying the blank CDs and cases, it'll be somewhere between 8-10$. All physicals will be personally signed before I send them to you. 6. The EP will have 5 songs. I confirm two of them will be Miss Libby and Fake Storybook. Consider them your lovely little singles. 7. Based on how well the funds go here is whether my next release will be another EP or a full album. I thank you guys for supporting me. I will keep you updated. I've been watching a ton of videos on singing better, learning to mix music, and this IS my dream, this is my story to write and I am writing it. when I open up donations I will post links here.

    What's Your Favorite Hymn?

What're your favorite hymns? It doesn't have to be traditional or anything, just pick your favorite and post a video of it with the title. I had no idea where to put this thread, so I just took a guess. My favorite is "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence". For Lent and the Eucharist. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JpPm1cxy2B0

I want some new music Enjoy My favorites at this moment: The light behind your eyes - My Chemical Romance Falling inside the black - Skillet Devil's Backbone - The Civil Wars Everyday is exactly the same - Nine inch nails Lead me out of the dark - crown the empire The proof of your love - For king & country To build a home - the cinematic orchestra
  9. I don't know about anybody else on here, but I know that when I'm having trouble getting into the mood of the story I am currently writing, I like to put on some music that inspires that kind of mood. If I'm writing a romance, I'll put on the "Romeo and Juliet Theme" by Henry Mancini. Or if I'm writing a Western, I'll play "The Ballad of Billy the Kid" by Billy Joel. Like that. So I was just wondering... what music do you guys like to listen to while writing? What mood does that music put you in?
  10. Hello. So I'm very new to this forum and I want to be clear, I just want some advice, a little discussion, of people's thoughts and facts and feelings etc. because they genuinely want to help me figure out what I want to know and all that. Okay so this is the jist of it. I've recently come to grips with God's call on my life to work in music. I love music but I have social anxiety and it's a struggle for me to sing in front of people. I don't trust my ability at all and I know God's been asking me to jump off of the cliff of my comfort zone and my ability and trust in His ability. (He literally told me "you're going to walk alone where I will lead you" last month) So I'm doing it. I just joined my church choir, started learning guitar, and will be (hopefully) taking voice lessons sometime soon. (Anybody had voice lessons before?) Now on to the rest of it. I'm called to the world of rock music and the many lost, broken, angry people there. As much as I dread it, it's in my heart to reach the dark the places not many Christians go; places braved only by a handful or so of Christian bands (who seem to be constantly ridiculed and hated by a large portion of the Christian community). I don't WANT to be hated by conservative Christians, but since I am not even called to their corner, should I even worry about that? Should I worry that I might be ridiculed as a false teacher by "extreme" Christians? (Not hating on them, just telling the truth; I have seen "Christian" extremists telling emo kids to plug themselves into a light socket and drown themselves in their bathtub) Some people do listen to them, after all. And there's always the "tightrope" walk of being very careful not to be so mainstream you're a poor witness but not to be so Christian that nonbelievers won't give you the time of day. And there's me. I don't know anything about anything (except that God knows I don't know anything and He still wants me to do it, which freaks me out). My family is more or less conservative, my dad's a pastor. I've been asking for almost a year now to get the tops of my ears pierced and they're still "thinking about it". But I didn't come here to gripe about my parents, that's just so you get the picture of my knowing nothing about nothing (in regard to the mainstream). [by the way, for anyone who doesn't understand what I mean by "mainstream" I mean "secular, worldy, etc"] There's the whole tattoo/piercing/black thing. I'd like to get my nose pierced as well as my lip(I don't dare ask for this, it will have to be after 18) and the tops of my ears. (You might think I'm going through a punk phase or rebellion, but I'm really not guys) Can I get some thoughts on that? Think it would look trashy? I think it might look trashy on some people but I have a particularly young looking face, and I don't think it would look trashy on me (but I don't know). But then, should I even care if others think it looks trashy? Maybe not, IF I wasn't going to be in the public eye. I've never actually known any Christians with lip piercings, although I'm sure there are some out there. (I'll update my profile picture to be a picture of me with fake ones if anyone wants to give input on that trashy or not thing) And then I'm not opposed to the idea of tattoos, but that's something I'll have to pray and think about for a long time before going through with. And then there are the health concerns with both piercings and tattoos, as well as image (as far as, will I be able to get a job, will it hinder my witness and things like that) And problems with black? Black clothes, black nail polish, black makeup, etc. And clothing with skulls on it? I always feel weird about that. I'd like to hear some thoughts on it. Just to be clear, I am not emo or goth. I could be called scene but I'm not really trying on that, I'm just quiet. I don't want to be emo or goth, either. And collaborating with other musicians? I'm sure I'll make some mainstream musician friends; any thoughts on singing on a mainstream album or having a mainstream singer sing on my album? Would it be a bad witness to support a mainstream artist/album? What do you think of mainstream festivals and tours? Thoughts about raising a family on the road, or going on the road without family? Good idea or going to backfire? Do you think there's a problem with having "Christian" and "rock music" in the same sentence? If not, where do you draw the line? Do you draw the line? It's not that I'm dumb and don't have opinions on any of these matters, I just want to hear from other Christians about it. (If this is in the wrong section sorry, I'm new) If anybody has any music-related advice for me, feel free to share that too. (Singing, playing guitar/piano/drums/violin, writing music, etc.) Or if you have anything else to say to me, go for it. I'd really like to just get some advice, some thoughts, some discussion in regard to everything I've mentioned. And if you're just reading this and you don't have anything to say, just pray for God to give me wisdom and send me all the right people. And if it wasn't clear, the future band to come will not be out there just to make music. We will be out there to show people Jesus through the avenue of music.

    Jazzy's official Songbook

Hi! So on another website I started a SONGBOOK, aka posting the lyrics to my songs in a thread so people can read them! I am going to do the same thing here, and you all can read and give comments and critique if you please. Please only constructive criticism, it does not help to say "it sucks" and not tell me why. Thanks!

    Secular music & faith

Hey there guys, I swore to myself that I was going to take a break from this site, but I just want to chime in with a quick topic. How do you guys feel Christian music impacts your faith? Does it positively contribute, negatively contribute, or do nothing at all? I have had people recently tell me that avoiding all non-Christian and secular music and listening to Christian music only is a great way to keep your faith strong because it minimizes your expose to "worldly things"? Comments? PS: This is probably posted in the wrong section, perhaps a moderator can move it.

Hozier - Take Me to Church

So as we know, this song has become a major top 10 hit. Hozier has distinctly stated the song is about his disagreements with the Church of Ireland... I was curious how you feel about the song. Do you think it is okay for a christian to listen to? Why or why not? I want your take on it.

    Taylor Swift?

I was curious if there was any other Taylor Swift fans out here? I have all her cds and stuff so it would be cool to meet some other swifties.
  17. Music is indeed a very powerful medium that is used in pretty much everything. I've noticed that a lot of modern churches have lost the traditional look and I guess there's no harm in that. The issue is that more and more churches are adopting secular practises to make it more appealing to non-believers. I find it worrying that churches are willing to compromise just to fill more seats on a Sunday service. I've been to a church that plays everyday secular music before the service, after and in any intervals. I met up with the church leader during the week and asked why they did this. I'll add that the music was Kanye west's at the time. The long and short of his answer was along the lines of: ''it's okay because it's just background music. We didn't have our attention on it and worshipping it as such so there's no harm...'' I didn't want to argue so I agreed to disagree but I think it's wrong. I saw that Sunday as a modernised version of Matthew 21:12. The Church, aka The House of God, should be kept Holy. The use of secular music doesn't permit that because it do not bring glory to God. Is there a problem here or not? I want to raise another point on the use of evangelical Christian music as worship but I'll probably slip that in later.

    help me decide? please?

Okay so I have a $10 Walmart gift card with some change to pay for the taxes too. I am trying to decide which album to buy. I cannot decide between these. Between The Stars - Flyleaf $10 Brand New Eyes - Paramore $5 Goodbye Lullaby - Avril Lavigne $7 Fallen - Evanescence $9 I practically love every song on them. At the same time with the Paramore album I have already purchased a couple tracks from each on iTunes. Not that it is super relevant. Please tell me what you would recommend! thanks!

    Music for Youth

A youth group I go to has been trying to get the kids to listen to the message but the problem is they don't like sitting in a chair and listening to someone talk to them. The group leaders came to the conclusion that they like to listen to music however they don't have the best choices of music on their devices. I was given the position of finding songs, getting them on my iPod and sharing them during the meetings so that the kids are listening to something worth while even if they are playing while they listen. The problem is that I don't know what songs to get. I've been given $50 on iTunes cards to purchase the music. The age group is between 7 - 16, mixture of boys and girls and they like more upbeat songs. Any thoughts?

    Favorite (secular) Bands/Artists?

I don't know if there's already a thread like this, but anyway, I was wondering what kind of secular music y'all are into. I say "secular" purposely, because firstly, there's already tons of threads talking about Christian music, and secondly, though I do enjoy Christian music, I listen to a lot of secular stuff. Music is a big love of mine and I'm hoping to find someone with the same music interests or at least close to it. I like a lot of different genres, but I'm mostly into Rock. Personally, some of my favorites are... Journey, Rush, Foreigner, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Queen, Styx, The Beatles, Guns N' Roses, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Heart, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Boston, Bad Company, Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Tom Petty, The Who, Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, Pink Floyd, Joan Jett, Nirvana, Metallica, Iron Maiden, The Guess Who, Quiet Riot, Bon Jovi, Black Sabbath, Foo Fighters, Billy Squier, The Black Crowes, Megadeth, Green Day, etc., etc. I could go on, and on. So, who are your favorite secular artists and bands?

    Foreign Music?

So, does anybody listen to music in a seperate language then your natural one? I listen to Japanese, Korean, Russian, German, Polish, French, Greek, and numerous other languages in music. My personal favorites are in Japanese and German. Bands like Nightwish and E Nomine from Germany. And as far as Japan goes...goodness. There's loads. Versailles, -OZ-, Bonnie Pink, DIV, SCANDAL, Alice Nine, Kanon Wakeshima, Dir En Grey, BOWL, Breakerz, Duel Jewel. Korean, is IU and Kim Kyung Ho.
  25. Maybe I'm the only one on CTF who cares about this. =P I used to listen to a lot of '90s Christian alt-rock (and I still do occasionally), so this news is of interest to me. [link] What is going on? =| This is so not Audio Adrenaline. There'll be only one original member, some new guys, and Kevin Max (1/3 of DC Talk). That's just weird. I'd rather they created a new band instead of using the same name and maybe playing some AA songs. They'll never have the same sound, and it's just... not the same.
