'Emo' hangs herself after 'becoming obsessed MCR'

Recommended Posts

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-56...-rock-band.html

Hannah Bond started listening to emo music and even cut her wrists. She then hangs herself two weeks later after being told she can't stay over at a friends house with her boyfriend. The coroners reason... the 'emo fad'. He said 'A girl of 13 years of age has taken her own life for no reason that anyone can find to be justifiable' and also goes onto say, 'The emo overtones concerning death and associating it with glamour, I find very disturbing'

I find it sickening how he can so easily blame emo music etc. even though it has often helped kids who don't fit in with other people. You, sadly, get people commiting suicide who listen to all types of music from punk to pop yet you don't find the coroners blaming them.

This coroner has no idea what was going on in her life yet he finds to easy to blame an alternative group which he knows nothing about. I think he is forgetting the type of pressure that kids are going through now-a-days with increased pressure to be thinner, achieve academically etc.

People find different ways of getting through hard times; be it music, sport etc. and we should not, as a society start bashing and marginalising different lifestyles.

:VERYMAD: :VERYMAD: It just makes me so angry when people start blaming something that they can't understand and maybe if he just went out and talked to these kids he would find out the things they are going through.

Anyway, don't wanna end on a sour note and I just want everyone to pray that we as a society can begin to understand different lifestyles and become more accepting. I also just wanna pray for her family and help them get through this tough time Lord and come out of it stronger. Amen.

Also, quick note, I'm not an emo :P

I think the girl had issues, but the emo fad did have a part to play. Its really sad. I never liked the emo trend for this reason and similar. =/

I feel sorry for her family too :(

..Hah. Anyway, I blame the emo thing too. It tricks people into believing a false reality and ultimately doing this. Sad, really.

The emo lifestyle did play a part (like Rave stated) but there are a lot of other reasons. Its odd that she died for what seems to be such a trivial problem but I'm certain that just made her reach her boiling point.

that poor girl. :(

In all reality, this is just another chain of music deaths that the news play. Years ago they blamed Ozzy's song "Suicide Solution" for bringing a fan to suicide. The song isn't even about suicide, it's about alcohol. The girl probably had problems in her life.

Yea, I agree with this.

This girl may have suffered from some depression, and got deep into this fad.

Which would tell her it's normal and accepted to be like this.

It breaks my heart to see this happen.

She had so much to live for.

Yeah music had nothing to do with her hanging herself, but I'm sure some people will blame MCR for this like they blamed Marilyn Manson for Columbine. It makes no sense, and actually I like Manson's response when asked about this same topic..music was an escape, was essentially a scapegoat for religious right, society itself (not entertainment) is full of fear, would actually listen to what the shooter's had to say.

And not to be a genre nazi but MCR is hardly emo..emo=emotional hardcore MCR=a pop punk band. Not that it really matters in the long run, but you can't call hem something they're not.

I have to say though, what you listen to has a big effect on you, and that's Biblical. Be careful about what you hear and what you see, the people you hang out with. People can tell me all they want it doesn't influence them at all, but when you're spending 99% of your time with that, something is going to graudually change.

I do however, or did. Know a girl (we went to school together for a little bit) and her name was Ashley... she hung herself in her closet over some serious issues in her life and my goodness, it upset me so bad.... but then the horrific thing was that the same month 5 other kids did the exact same thing because they wanted the same attention she got at her funeral. I am not going to blame a trend, but people see it and then they follow, it definitely has deeper rooted issues though.

I truly believe suicide is just the manifestation of someone who does not know their purpose.

This breaks my heart.

but yeah, I believe there were deeper issues than just music, though that DEFINITELY does have a serious effect.

Seriously, i think i used this somewhere else... think about chocolate cake (or something you enjoy eating) every minute of your day, or 99% of the time...see if you dream about it, then see if you find yourself craving it. I believe it's scientiffic and not just Biblical. I mean seriously, people playing grand theft auto and running people over? It's twisted but what you hear, see and who you hang out with has a HUGE effect on your life - even if you don't see it.

Maybe it's even subliminal like if you kept seeing a picture of chocolate cake randomly. I know that in my book Battle Cry for this Generation it stated a fact from a TV governmental website that the more sexual things you watch of tv the more likely you are to have sex. it's plain and simple. Advertisers know how to get us and we need to be careful.

though, i do not think it's fully advertisement in this case.

I rally do think that there were other reasons that this girl committed suicide I myself have beeb there before into the whole emo thing and it does change the way you think about life at times so it did play a part but I am sure there were other problems in her life to.

I will be praying for the family.

Carjacking amongst Grand Theft Auto's targeted age group has dropped significantly since the game came out.

Plus studies have shown that violent video games have no affect on the majority of people (and will only affect you if you've already had violent tendencies.)Link to article. So the idea that media in general can cause mentally healthy people to do something like suicide/murder I would think would not be true.

So. My point is that gangs use Grand Theft auto to TRAIN their members and then initiate them with it. Grand Theft Auto has multiple accounts of people playing the game for hours and hours straight (as in 24 plus) and then going out and doing what they did in the game. What I am saying is, is that it effects your brain. It's something psychological... even if you are "of age" to play the game. It's just plain BAD to fill yourself with. I mean secret codes to unlock porn? I am surprised they haven't lost millions of dollars due to the deaths related DIRECTLY to the game and parents suing for pornographic images secretly hidden in the games. It's uncool.

All I was trying to say is that what you watch, hear, and who you hang with does effect you.

Wow, thats harsh. I honestly do not believe that it is the "Emo Fad" I listen to emo music and I am a happy person.

She probably just bottled up her emotions and snapped.

I am so sorry for her family though, considering she was only 13.

The only people who do that are already violent people to begin with! 99.999% of people who play GTA will not go outside and start stealing cars.

I'll say that it may have played a part in it, but I dont' think it's the whole reason that she killed herself. People blame religion and God for many things that aren't true because they don't understand, or are prejudiced and don't want to understand. Who knows, though.

All Grand Theft Auto is is a scapegoat. People use it as an excuse to go out and commit crime. Whether or not they are right or not, they know they can get away with it because, obviously, people believe they are connected.

its interesting the parents don't always see. I mean you'd think it'd been more ovcious if she was suicidal. but it often happens.

here the mom said:

"Hannah was a normal girl. She had loads of friends. She could be a bit moody but I thought it was just because she was a teenager."[/b]

I had this whole thinger typed up agreeing with the OP, but H!PP!3 took the words out of my mouth in a more concise way:

I mean, if I play Fishy for hours [its the best game ever - just google "Fishy" and click any of the first few links that pop up], it won't make me want to eat fish unless I already like to eat fish. Likewise, I won't want to run someone over after playing GTA unless I already want to.

Honestly though. Where's the proof for the gang+GTA claim? That seemed out of the blue, tbh.

That was the stupidest article I've ever read. I'm certainly not emo, and I can't stand the emo trend, but it's filled with historical and cultural inaccuracies (MCR's first single was in 2004, and they're not a "suicide cult" band), the structure is insane, and its description of "emo" isn't consistent with the general emo subculture at all. It's describing the entire trend as a bunch of suicidal teenagers who ALL slice themselves up all over the place, but that's simply not true. People like that girl are just wannabes looking for attention, and don't have any grasp on life.

Tragic, though.

Please note it is written by the DailyMail, the editor of which famously said "give them someone new to hate everyday"

They love their sterotypes...
