'big Brother' Bothers Britain

'Big Brother' bothers Britain

Talk about intense.

Britain's government wants to begin keeping databases of e-mails sent, calls made on Skype, exchanges on social networking sites, chats on gaming sites, communications made through eBay and a variety of other Internet interactions.

In addition, the government proposes to begin requiring registration of all mobile phones in the country—today more than half are unregistered pre-paids—and it hopes to issue a national identity card for everyone living in Britain, with details stored on a central database. It also proposes giving each newborn child an identity number that will follow them through life.

To be honest, we have already gone further than most people think we have. There are already massive national databases of everyones information - this is just going another step further.

While the Bible says "no man shall know the hour", I still think this could be a step closer towards the prophecies of Revelation - i.e. the mark of the Beast. Look up RFID tagging in humans.

I dunno. But sounds incredibly socialist.

"Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society[1][2] Modern socialism originated in the late nineteenth-century working class political movement. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution which represents the transitional stage between capitalism and communism.[3][4]"

Not really to me.

Last days anyone?

Sure sounds like they're getting ready for the one-world government and religion.

I will succeed that it is not socialist ideals, but when you look at a socialist government, big brother is what you see. Russia, North Korea anyone? Even China to an extent.

Agreed with all three of you. Revelations anyone?

But none of those countries were socialistic. China being the least socialistic of all.

They'll just say it's for terrorism, and honestly, I'm all for it.

To tell you the truth, if we didn't mess up so much on the global stage (war in Iraq anyone?), then we wouldn't be such a target for terrorists! Look at Holland, Scandinavian countries and Canada. They don't have to curb their citizens freedoms in the name of "counter-terrorism". We say that we are bastions of freedom in the world, but our society is the most authoritarian in Europe (for instance, no other European country has as many CCTV cameras as us).

With the exception of China, those nations were, for a period in history, absolutely socialistic in that the economic and material produce of the country were entirely within the government's power to distribute. The idea that gave birth to them, though certainly not the idea that they ended up realizing, was that economic structure ought to be intelligently organized by an elite group in order to work with greater efficiency, and more fairly distribute wealth. Although these were extreme cases, they did reflect the basic goals of political socialism.

~~

And this does not shock me, and it does not point the End Times in particular. It's happened before on a less high-tech basis, and it will probably happen again. People simply do not learn their lesson, and those that do die, and their children don't remember it. Yes, it will probably be going on when the End Times decide to show up, but that's because it will either be happening, or will have just happened somewhere at any point in history you choose to point out.

We're going to come to a disagreement about the actual economic structure of those countries. Regardless of what principles they were intended to be founded upon, they were not socialist nations.

Some of you make this out to be just a trend or phase, with comments like "it's happened before." It's not a trend, it's something that will continue to prevail. This is no phase, it's a continual build towards a serious world problem.

Personally, I'm all in favour of it. They've been tracking phone calls (like all Western governments) for ages, I don't see how doing it on Skype is any different.

ID Cards are good too :) Might be a bit of a pain to register my mobile, but I'll live with it

The word you're looking for is "authoritarian"

Why? Because only the guilty have something to hide?

All of this has been a long, long time coming - as in, this has been in the planning stages for a quite a while.

Last days anyone?

when I say "it's happened before," I am by no means degrading the problem. I am referring more to incidents like the Spanish Inquisition, or the Holocaust, or any atrocity brought about by the people's willingness to sacrifice liberty for the benefits of unity and centralization. Britain's Big Brother programs, combined with the socialistic trends in Europe, will no doubt lead to Fascism, and one of unprecedented intelligence. I assure you, I'm with you on this one, Deeper :P I'm just saying that it isn't a new catastrophe, and if history is an indicator, it is only one we can put off, and not one we can avoid altogether. However, why this particular wave of authoritarian Big Brother behavior should yield the End Times any more than the other little Fascist hiccups throughout the past six centuries lacks a decent explanation.
The word you're looking for is "authoritarian"
There is a significant portion of the population that believes that socialism is the root cause of Fascism, and is inherently coercive and authoritarian. Read The Road to Serfdom, sometime, by the Nobel prize winning Friederich Hayek.

well that's good to know :)

Sure, although I don't recall mentioning anything about the end times. I think that yes we're obviously getting closer but I think the main thing we need to focus on is not the end, but rather what we're going to do in the time we have before the Great Day. It's coming weather or not we agree, but that's all inevitable. I think there are bigger priorities to focus on.
