1 Timothy 4:12

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believes in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity

I know it seems weird and gross, but my favorite Bible story was always the story of Ehud. Does no one else think that the idea of a dude getting into a palace, convincing everybody to get out then stabbing the tyrant in the stomach with his left hand, and then sneaking out, locking the palace behind him, and leading the Isrealites in battle awesome?

When I saw this thread, Ehud and 2 King 2:23-24 immediately came to mind. Ehud because of the sheer awesomeness of the story, and the other passage because I still can't help but laugh maniacally when I read it.

My favorite verse:

1 Peter 3:15 - "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect."

I'm an apologist, and I love this verse for what it says about defending the faith. "Always be prepared", so never let your spiritual guard down. "To give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason", to everyone, it doesn't matter who, you must be ready to give real reasons "for the hope that you have", for my new life in Christ. "But do this with gentleness and respect" which is perhaps the part I mess up the most, I'm sometimes a little too aggressive in my defense.

My favorite story would either be Jesus losing it in the temple, Samson bringing down the house, or the woman at the well.

I don't know if it is my favorite, but this one has been on my heart lately.

"We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

Romans 7:14-25

26The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 1 Corinthians 15:26

1Awake, awake,

put on your strength, O Zion;

put on your beautiful garments,

O Jerusalem, the holy city;

for there shall no more come into you

the uncircumcised and the unclean.

2 Shake yourself from the dust and arise;

be seated, O Jerusalem;

loose the bonds from your neck,

O captive daughter of Zion.

3For thus says the LORD: "You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money." 4For thus says the Lord GOD: "My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there, and the Assyrian oppressed them for nothing. 5Now therefore what have I here," declares the LORD, "seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Their rulers wail," declares the LORD, "and continually all the day my name is despised. 6Therefore my people shall know my name. Therefore in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here am I."

Isaiah 52:1-6 When I read verse three I went WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! We were redeemed without money for sure, we were redeemed through the Blood! <3

My favorite verse is 1 John 4:8

"He who does not know love does not know God, for God is love."

I was saved the day I read this verse. It is amazing, and it shows that love is always there and He will always love me.

Ezekiel 23:19-20 (NIV) "19 Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. 20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses." This verse always makes me laugh when I read. Oh Ancient Hebrew and your poetry styles!

My favourite Book is James!

Because there is so much wisdom in here for us as believers :D

My favourite chapter is Psalm 139

Because it just completely blows me away everytime I read it and realise, who God is! ;)

And one of my favourite verses is:

Hebrews 4 v 12

For the word of God is quick and powerful

Sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the soul and spirit

the bone and sinews

A disearner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

My favorite bible verse is proverbs 3:5 Trust the lord with all thine heart and lean not on thy own understanding.

This verse just reminds me that even though I am so unworthy jesus went to cross to die for me and just makes me wonder what he saw in me to suffer such deep agony

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

I thought you were joshing, but heck no! It really is there. Oholibah is one of those Bible names I won't be thinking of for my daughter. Love, the image of her doting upon the pictures of men on the walls - reminds me of my sister ogling her poster boys. I won't tell her of your post though - she'll just want to book a holiday in Egypt :)

My favourite bible story is that of Judith.

Book of Tobit, chapter VIII:i-iii:

When they had finished eating, they escorted Tobi′as in to her. 2 As he went he remembered the words of Raph′ael, and he took the live ashes of incense and put the heart and liver of the fish upon them and made a smoke. 3 And when the demon smelled the odor he fled to the remotest parts of Egypt, and the angel bound him.

The whole book of Tobit is simply an amazing biblical mythology. It preaches great altruistic and communitarian values, along with a beautiful romance narrative.

Titus 2:7-8

Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, 8 and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.

I'd just like to hear what other peoples' turn to bible verses are? It can be inspirational, challenging, encouraging...whatever.

I think I'd say mine was:

What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Mark 8:36.

I don't remember it exactly word for word like that, but it always helps me to put things into perspective when I'm tempted to wander astray from the path God has chosen for me. =D
