"God is not a man or son of man"

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I need some help with numbers 23 19*"God is not a man, that He should lie,

Nor a son of man, that He should repent;

Has He said, and will He not do it?

Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

If Jesus has always existed and is the son of man and son of God, can someone explain this?

God in His absolute, essential nature is not a man. The Divine Essence is completely unique and transcendent and spirit. He is no man. However, when Jesus became incarnate it meant the second person of the Trinity taking on another nature to unite within Himself. Nonetheless, Jesus' humanity is not the same as His deity, and His deity is by no means a man.

Okay, but the confusing part here is where it says God is not a son of man. Didn't Jesus who is also fully God call Himself the son of man?

The Son of Man is an ancient way of saying that you are human. It is the quintessential human being, so to speak. It is close to how in Narnia the children are called "son of Adam" and "daughter of "Eve".

Remember, the Book of Numbers pre-dates the Incarnation.

God is not a man, the context being specifically in reference to the Father, but because God is one in essence, is applies to all three persons of the Trinity.

In the Incantation, the Second Person of the Trinity (God the Son), took on a full human nature, that did not mix with his human nature. One person, two natures.

God does not lie, change, etc - this includes Christ's divine nature. He does not do things that men do as sinners or because they are humans.
