Bethany Elise Posted August 4, 2014 I'd like it if we could "like" posts and statuses!

T.O.W.R. Posted August 4, 2014 We've discussed this multiple times but has been turned down every time. As a forum, posting is encouraged, to add a like button would cause people to just "like" rather than actually post. I would have issues with it because it would cause favoritism. Especially if it were to be anonymous. But there was one idea to allow likes on the statuses and test it out a bit before adding it to the main forum. Which I really wouldn't be opposed to. No harm in trying. Also, this might not even be possible. Depends on the forum software.
Bethany Elise Posted August 4, 2014 I'm also on a different forum, but it has the same general layout, and you can like posts and statuses, which is like, because it's easier to show you like something.

slycooper Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) We should totes have this so I can 'like' an incredibly intelligent post, or one in a debate thread that is 'winning' and thus insinuate it as my own thoughts and opinion without any expectation of being able to defend it (whether I understood a word of it or not) The feeling of intellectual superiority at a simple click of a button! 'Twould be marvellous. Edited August 4, 2014 by slycooper
Cato Posted August 4, 2014 I frequent a forum with a "thanks" button - works well. And it does not depend on forum software because forum software can be modified by the user.
Guest Mike Spero Posted August 8, 2014 We're not Facebook. And we had better stay like that TT^TT
Zhouburn Posted August 13, 2014 We're not Facebook. I would share this too my wall, but apparently we're not Facebook. Also, I hate the like button. Hitting a button doesn't mean you like anything.
Lefebvre Posted August 14, 2014 Like buttons are stupid. Sophisticated sites only use hate buttons. Please, for the love of God, install a hate button.
AlexFL93 Posted August 14, 2014 "Likes" and "Hates" are very dangerous because people use them to gang up on and drag down the reputation of a user they don't like, and it discourages discussion as people will use the button to express their feelings and hide in anonymity, typically in discussions they have baseless views on. Bethany Elise Posted August 14, 2014 Well, I see now why y'all haven't added "like" or "+1" buttons
Cato Posted August 16, 2014 We're not Facebook. We have status updates, a news feed, and "timeline covers," but this is where we draw the line on being too much like Facebook??
Guest Mike Spero Posted August 20, 2014 Well, I see now why y'all haven't added "like" or "+1" buttons Haha, this thread itself is ample enough reason cx
