Another Post on Masturbation

Recommended Posts

I would be surprised if what I'm about to say has not already been discussed in past comments of older forum threads, but I'm new and fairly impatient!

Here's what I have to say:

If a Christian man masturbates:

- primarily as a release

- without thinking lustful thoughts

- without having been inspired to masturbate by sexual content taken in prior to masturbation (e.x. an inappropriate picture or commercial)

- without being content with masturbation; acknowledging that he is temporarily settling for much less than what God designed of sexual stimulation in order to control himself

...Is it a sin?

Before you comment, consider also these points:

- pleasure is not wrong; chocolate isn't a sin, is it?

- Why would the Bible be completely silent on masturbation, yet clearly condemn a host of other sexual sins?

- Consider the fact that tickling yourself doesn't really work, yet masturbation does, and both tickling and sexual stimulation were designed by the same God

I truly wish to seek out truth in this matter. One method I have of seeking out truth is playing "devils advocate", which in this case involves creating a fictitious but possible character that we can call "Jimmy", that only masturbates following all of the above guidelines.

For extra brownie points, imagine that you were talking with "Jimmy", and he told you all of this. Comment as if you were responding to him in a face to face conversation!

I must say, I love the way you present things. You really take charge of your threads >:3

Okay, onto the topic

"NOW YOU LISTEN HERE, JIMMY D:< (xp) Masturbation is a sin because unlike tickling that's not what God designed it for! Of course we can tickle ourselves without sinning, God made our skin soft and capable of positive sensation so we can feel it freely. But that one "area" is designed for desecration and pleasure with your spouse. God doesn't just condemn it because "He can", I mean let's be honesty Jimmy, who was it who made sex to feel so great? God clearly wants us to have fun, so why would the Bible say: "Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul." and also to cut off your hand if it causes you to sin? Now, besides the obvious negative effects of masturbation like an unnatural curve or impending erectile disfunction as an adult (if you're male like your name implies, Jimmy boy :P), do you really think trying to force what God designed to be a perfect and beautiful physical union between man and wife into one between man and hand is a good or healthy idea? That's what we call emotional turmoil Jimmy... *puts hand on shoulder in a comforting manner* It's okay man, I'm here for you TT~TT"

Now that wasn't at all how I'd talk to someone face to face... Or at all, but I figured I'd have some fun while getting my brownie points; and what I said still stands xP

Jimmy,

You're lying. Masturbate without thinking lustful thoughts? Are you serious? You and I know full well that you're not thinking about the groceries. Men masturbate for two reasons: they're either horny, or they're bored. In the first case looking at "sexual content" prior to doing the deed is unneeded I suppose, but you don't expect me to believe that you're thinking about non-lustful things while you're doing the deed because that would kill the mood. In the second case, sexual content or thoughts are needed to achieve the necessary arousal required to stimulate away the day. In both cases, you're being lustful, which is sinful. Pretending that your can masturbate without looking at porn or thinking lustful thoughts is a lie, so don't try to pass that one off on me. You know, I know, every living male knows it.

Masturbation is a sin because of the simple, biblically-rooted formula of Onan+Lust= sin. Knowing it is a sin, as you seem to partially acknowledge, does not lessen the severity of the sin nor your own culpability in it.
