Coca-Cola Is Bringing Back SURGE

Recommended Posts

Coke dials up the 1990s nostalgia

Coca-Cola’s 1990s SURGE citrus drink is back by popular demand.

The Mountain-Dew inspired soda, which debuted in 1996 but was discontinued in the early 2000s, has been the subject of a nostalgia-fueled online campaign to lobby the company to bring back the drink.

I wouldn't mind trying it again. I remember it, but not the flavor. :P

I will not hesitate to slap you, good sir. This was a childhood institution of rebellion. We've earned this.

I'll order a case and drink them all while watching every episode of Pete & Pete in one sitting.

Pete & Pete, eh?

So, was surge the precursor to Mello Yello or... what? I never drank it.

Mello Yello came out first in '79 to compete with Mountain Dew which itself dates back to the 50's. Surge didn't come out until 1996-1997 though it was released for the same reason as Mello Yello which was to compete with Mountain Dew.

Yes, I was a 90's kid...

Proove it! :P jk

I kinda remember Surge. I was 6-ish when it was discontinued and I don't remember ever having it, but I remember it.

As for the T.V. shows, I was born a little too late for that. I'm glad it's coming back. Nostalgia is almost always a good thing.

I feel this is a bit too early 2000's that it is 90's. I remember all of these. However, my parents raised me about 3 years behind the real world, and they say that the 90's ended in 2004 sooo...
