School stuff........

Recommended Posts

Im having trouble with school. Im having issues with remembering the stuff i learn. Couple weeks ago i had to do a test and see where i meassure up with other kids my age and in my grade. And i dont think i did well this year.

Science is just stupid and confusing. Does it matter that i don't understand the elements? It's not like im going to dig for uranium in my yard. Do i care about the chemical structure and functions of a plant? It's not like im going to become a plantologist (whatever the study is called). The only reason i find science cool is because of the Mythbusters.

Language/English is just meh. Learning about poems are stupid. And so what if i dont use vivid words and adjectives. Who cares about being vivid and colorful with your words. The only reason why i read the dictionary when i was younger to find bad or derogatory words.

Math....dont even get me started on that. I suck at it.

History is just boring. Who cares about France and there badly dressed kings?! It's probably the easiest subject because all you have to do is read about some guy and answer some questions.

It's just too hard for me to learn. I have no desire to learn all of that stuff. Im not smart enough to remember that crap. And i know im not going to college. I will fail that too. Im nit smart enough for college and i dont know what im going to do in my future. Im not smart enough for much of anything. And i feel like if i dont get any better,i feel like i wont measure up to anything in my life.I just feel stupid thats all.

Who cares?

To get anything from the world, you have to be able to offer something in return. For people to know you have something to offer, it helps if you can prove that you're basically competent. Passing grades in secondary school tend to indicate basic competence. If you fail to do that, it will make it harder for you to earn respect, money, and fulfilling work when you're older.

That said, I guarantee you're not too stupid to pass your basic classes. It just takes some discipline and a better attitude.

I don't know you, however, so I can't offer much more than that. If I were you, I'd reach out to people who care about you at home or at school, since they'll be much better able to help you than me.

You shouldn't think you're 'not smart enough' or anything. School can be hard sometimes, try not to get so down about it. I would usually feel a little dumb if everyone else in my class is doing well while I lag behind but, honestly, if you compare yourself to others then you'll always be disappointed. And I know this is really cliché, but talking to a teacher really does help. They get paid to help you do well and be the best you can be. If you have any issues at all, talk to them and they'll show you the best way to understand. School is a pain but you should always believe in yourself :)

I honestly used to be so much like that.

Particularly History! Why do I care about all that old school crap?! Well it is not OLD SCHOOL CRAP. I have found while reading history, it tends to REPEAT itself. also much history can help us to understand how we got to where we are today. Although I still suck at remembering dates, I have grown to like history more because it helps me understand how things came to be.

I am not sure what kind of math you are doing, but I used to struggle too! I had trouble with fractions and division in the beginning. I did very well with algebra, but I really sucked at Geometry. Many specialist say though that if you are good at Algebra, Geometry will be a struggle, and if you struggle with Algebra, Geometry will be easier. If you need any math help, feel free to message me. I oddly like to help people with math problems. XD

I struggled with Chemistry as well. I never really got the formulas down to an art, but I chose not to take Chemistry class again. I took different sciences instead. I recommend avoiding a full on chemistry class unless you plan to be a chemist. However, it does help you understand how things of earth are made up. Think of science as expanding your knowledge of the beautiful creations God made. It always helped me through science.

If you ever need help or study tips, I am willing to help Crosses. I used to struggle a lot in school but I got better, to the point I have grown confident enough I am planning to apply for college. I used to feel like I too was too dumb for college and couldn't do it, but never feel that way. Honestly, you get OUT what you put IN. The more effort you put in NOW, the easier college will be!

You have degraded yourself already. the only way to get 'book smart' is to read and work more.

I am homeschooled as well. That is why I am so willing to help. XD

Also, you don't have to be Einstein to get most of the benefits from school. If you get all Cs, that will open up your basic job opportunities, and then you can develop professional competencies--which is a whole lot better than being a highschool dropout.

You cannot learn until you see the importance. It is sad to see that you simply don't care, and don't see the point in science, or history, or English, or any subject for that matter. I don't mean to rag on you, but you can't go through life without having a certain degree of education, if you want to be a functioning, self supporting adult.

It's just that i find it pointless to learn about fusion in science. I dont think when im an adult i need to know how fusion in fission (however you spell it) something. It's not like im going to do some fusion on some elements with a frying pan and a oven. Thats what Morgan Freeman is for. History just repeats itself. Yeah,i get it that Christopher Columbus saild the ocean blue in 1492. And i know that Mesopotamia (however you spell that place) and the feritle crescent is the,"Cradle of Civilization". English is...english. I suck at it,but eh... still better than some. And then my Language arts book asking me to make a meaningful poem.

Overall,it's all abot what i want to be when i get older. Just dont let me be a scientist because i may somehow tear up time and space as we know it. Or somehow nuke the whole universe. Blow up the sun.

Let me try to help some here.

I found I was more interested in school when I wrote down what I may do in the future, and then looked at how EACH SUBJECT could help me succeed in my future.

So whether you want to PM me or otherwise, what do you want to do when you are older? It doesn't have to be a single thing or this list 100% what you will do right now. It can change.

I thought this too. Then I grew up and was surprised at what random things I learned in school turned out to be useful. Even in this example you give, I had a friend who went into the Navy just to be...you know. A Navy enlistee. Then he got placed as a nuke and ended up working on nuclear generators on subs and carriers. Which involved doing chemistry for a living.

Life's weird.

Thought about becoming a musician. But going to college just to study music would be a waste of time. Thought about being a doctor or lawyer, but that takes forever to graduate in college and i dont want to waste my time on that. I dont know what i want to be exactly.

okay. I would love to be a musician too. But it is always good to have a backup plan, because it may take a while to be discovered. So it may help, because you could get paid to teach music or give other people lessons. In music, there actually is some math! think of that. :)

Doctor may be difficult for you if you do not want to learn chemistry. Doctors need to know the periodic table and such. Medicine yah know.

For lawyers, history can be very important. biology or psychology can help you to understand the way man works.

this is just some minor things. See how I linked them?

I thought music teachers need to have a degree to teach? I know somebody who actually went to college to study music. Shes now a piano teacher. I dont think i want to become and teacher.

Doctors. Eh. Thought about it when i was younger.

And for becoming a lawyer. The only thing im good at is arguing.

Yes they do. I was suggesting if you chose to go to school for music. But some people who are very good at instruments do not always go to college, but just open a little private schooling from their homes.

If you can add some basis to your arguments, you are already on your way. :)

I dont think i can become a teacher. Why? Because i woukd confuse people more than anything. And for lawyer, that takes forever to get out of school.

Hm. The thing about passing high school is that it's sort of a bar that says "this person can put in the work to get through this basic hoop". You may never need advance math or chemistry but getting through the classes proves that you have grit. That you can identify a goal and get through it. I always had a super hard time with chemistry, which sucked because I loved science and biology and my original field would have required at least a basic knowledge of it.

But! I switched into a field that I didn't even know existed in high school and I've been really happy. Life's funny that way.

You're young. Honestly? Very few people know what they want to do in highschool. Heck, a lot don't even know coming out of college. It's just a way to better your life prospects. A chance you have to weigh for yourself. School is a lot of money, after all. It helps to have a career you love, but sometimes just having a job and then pursuing your passions outside of that is fine too. I have an aunt who has an accounting degree. She doesn't care for accounting but is good at it. She picks up an accounting jobs for a year or so to earn money then goes off and writes books. Teaches English abroad. Flips houses. You gotta forge your own path.

I like this little graphic.

Because it shows that there are a lot of things that are "good". Don't be afraid to explore alternate options. I have a cousin who went into teaching, hated it, and now manages a small water park in her hometown. Loves it. A lot of people would think teaching would be "better" but that's where she's happy. So it's all good. Gotta think outside your box and gotta beat out that negative thinking. ^_^
