Sexuality in Teens - Masturbation

Recommended Posts

So recently I came across an issue with myself. I, being a teenager, am extremely sexual. There are times I have to fight the urge to think of my female friends (Which granted, is rare.) with sexual lust. When you're aroused it is really difficult to make your mind change the subject. I instantly start to feel wrong or dirty when my mind goes in that direction and there are often times my mind stays there all day and I have to resort to masturbation to get on with my life (So yes, there are times I am stuck at school not doing my work because my mind is elsewhere and I have to wait 'till

I get home to do work). It is hard to avoid thinking of sex when it's almost all you talk about when you go to a public high school. Yes, they aren't direct mentionings of sex, but if you are already in that mind set anything that's "inuendous" at all instantly becomes wrong. I read this and I now have a sort of different view on how if masturbation is overused it can be bad for you spiritually so it really comes down to who you are as a person. It's a personal thing and everybody is different.

My question is: Is it bad to lust after a character that you created yourself? As in some kind of OC or temporary mate?

Jesus said to lust after a woman is to commit adultery with her in your heart. Notice he said ADULTERY, which would require you or the object of your lust to be married. As long as the girls you are thinking of when you... comfort yourself aren't married, I don't see how this could possibly be a sin.

I think it makes a great deal more sense to take this statement as using "adultery" in a broad and loose way than to take is as restricting a heart issue to only being bad under certain circumstances not related to the condition of your heart.

I wasn't aware adultery had a broader sense, though I guess we would have to go back to the original Greek, as 'adultery' is just the english translation; but in any case, Jesus was referring to the seventh commandment.

Jesus' point seems to be that it is better to not even contemplate sin. My point in that since having sex with an unmarried woman is not forbidden anywhere in the Mosiac law, thinking about it couldn't be wrong under Jesus' new Covenant.

If it fuels lust, don't justify it. Lust is lust. This is probably my biggest struggle, justifying my actions so I can do what I want and not feel bad, and masturbation is a big one. It really sucks to think like that. Even if the Bible doesn't mention masturbation, so what? Why are we looking into it so much? Because we want to justify it, to get as close to the line as we can.

To heal, to look for another way, deny yourself and follow Jesus. Don't look for ways to get as close to the edge without falling off.

I am 100% sure that wanking to some private fantasy woman is still unacceptable in pretty much every sense; if we're discussing this from an orthodox Christian standpoint. There might be some denominations that are cool with masturbation (Episcopalians?) but I don't know.

Zibbyjane says:

If it fuels lust, don't justify it. Lust is lust.

Your hormones fuel lust. Masturbation temporarily sates that lust. Though if it were not for lust, no life would persist beyond a generation.

Well, if you are going to govern your behavior according to what your denomination teaches, that's different. I was more concerned with what the Bible itself says on the matter, which is nothing.

This is one of the reasons I say that religion puts an unnecessary burden on people's lives.  Here we have a teenager who thinks about sex which is totally natural specially at his age and levels of hormone production.  He is in a troubled state of mind because Christianity taught him masturbation/lust is wrong when in reality isn't inherently wrong.

I wish this wouldn't be an issue for you, Crusader, to simply unload your tension or satisfy your cravings through self-pleasure without feeling guilt.

I understand you will attempt to stay away from masturbation because of your faithfulness to your religion or beliefs.  I wish you the best.

There are many "terms" that us Christians believe that wasn't mention in the bible but are reflected through text if read properly. Example of such terms is purgatory for the Catholic Christian Church, The term purgatory was never mentioned in the bible but through multiple texts it shows some kind of waiting period before we are risen for the Judgement Day. The trinity was never mentioned as well but through multiple texts it's reflected that Jesus, God & The Holy spirit are the same entity.

---

"Jesus is Coming" Revelation 22:13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

Let's talk about masturbation;

The word/term "Masturbation" not found in the bible but it's reflected through multiple texts

1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

Is sexual Immorality a sin? Yes, with one's own body. Sexual Immorality could be done in many ways and masturbation falls under it as well.

To answer your question "Is it bad to lust after a character that you created yourself?"

If you lusted for a person's flesh even in mind, you are bound to Sin

---

Romans 8:6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Proverbs 6:25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes.

To Mr. Faithful Kevin

I know you have your doubts but I implore you to fully investigate "Christianity"  first rather than becoming an "adversary" until proven wrong. I once doubted like you but It instead fueled me to find the truth even if it's inconvenient. It clearly shows that you are done "investigating" and have already concluded that Christianity is a bane in this world, which justify your current actions. I know that you made it clear to all of us that you are now independent from God but I can't allow to you Shepard this people to sin by your name. I hope this newly found freedom is what you really want, it's your independent choice to finally throw God out your life even if God is the way, the truth, and the Life... If that even matter to you.

It is doubtful that St. Paul is speaking of masturbation in that passage. You are really grasping at straws there. It is pretty manifest that St. Paul is here discussing not a particular species of sexual sin, but the genus of sexual sin. What St. Paul seems to be saying is that sexuality is related to the incarnation of the body in a way that other sins simply are not; that sex is something which intimately affects the totality of our being as spirit/flesh. I love that passage from Jean-Paul Sartre: " "I make myself flesh in order to impel the Other to realize for herself and for me her own flesh, and my caresses cause my flesh to be born for me in so far as it is for the Other flesh causing her to be born as flesh."

I believe I've learned enough about Christianity to come to my own conclusions.

"but I can't allow to you Shepard this people to sin by your name"

This is ridiculous.  I simply made my point that Christianity puts an unnecessary burden on people.  This is a fact.

This again...

OK, how about "moving on" with your life?

What you're doing is similar to an EX from 2 yrs ago who can't move on and continuously haunts you at your doorstep

STILL debating who's right or wrong. Can't you just find peace elsewhere as an Atheist? Please Move on... for your sake

C.T.F. Rule #5 - "There are to be no debates concerning whether Christianity is true, or the validity of the Christian faith."

How nice of you to say.

No.  If you don't like what I have to write, you can simply click away from this thread.

By the way, the fact that I've mentioned about Christianity being a burden doesn't break Rule #5.

I don't know if masturbation itself is an issue. I think more of the issue is what lies behind it--mainly the sexual fantasizing. The reason people masturbate is for pleasure. But normally the masturbation is accompanied by, well, something else. To me, the problem is not masturbation. Like you said, you find yourself occasionally fantasizing about the girls you know. Guess what: Almost every guy does (even me!). You're not alone. Whenever you find your mind "wandering" in that direction, DISTRACT YOURSELF. It could be writing a letter to a pen pal. Or picking up a good book. Or playing a video game. Just something to get your mind off of girls.

Making up someone to masturbate to is about the same level as actually watching/reading porn. You're presenting yourself with an image with which to pleasure your body. Except for the lack of internet history to clean up, there's not much of a difference. That chick on the cover of Sports Illustrated is so Photoshopped, she might as well be imaginary.

Dr. James Dobson circa 1995 (I have a True Love Waits Bible, this is how I know) said that "If you masturbate, it is my PERSONAL OPINION that you shouldn't have to feel guilty about it. On the other hand, if you don't feel the need to start, don't." ...loose quote, but it meant the same thing.

Your brain gets hooked on those chemical releases so quitting is hard to stop. They were made to fuel the marriage fire, The body gets hooked on the release, which builds the relationship and if the timing is right, makes  babies. Thanks biology.

From what I gather, it's more productive to give yourself a good workout to release endorphins instead. There are ways to train your thought processes. It's just a matter of doing so, if you desire to.

Next time you're aroused( and you'd rather not be), think about your grandma, or something boring, like a math book. A guy on Buzzfeed thought about lemons and potatoes to turn himself off.
