Is it right for Christians to serve as soldiers?

I've been thinking on this issue, and I've not found great answers.I'm pacifist with the exception of wars fought to save lives: eg.the war on Isis.

However, most wars are political and economical, fought for the interest of a few selfish men. Here soldiers are forced to be mere creatures of instinct: kill or be killed. You kill people that may have been friends if not for war.Should Christians be involved in that charade?

And what's more: if you sign up to military service, you can't choose what wars you'd fight.

I'm really confused about this. What do you guys think?

I think - and this is just me personally - that we should focus on ensuring there are people in power that won't play the political games that cost hundreds of thousands of lives.

Serve in accordance with conscience. Except during draft situations, you can always leave the military if they implicate you in something you oppose.

I'm a big fan of Just War theory, by the way.

I, like Nicene, am a fan of the Just War Theory.

I encourage you to also remember, in the case of a just war, patriotism is considered a virtue of its own. A lesser virtue of course, but a virtue nonetheless.
