Why do I keep hearing this verse everywhere? What could it mean for me??

Matthew 16:26 - What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? (NIV)

I keep hearing this verse being mentioned or showing up everywhere, in church, in literature for school, on advertising etc. God is trying to tell me something but I can't figure it out. I have a plethora of issues I've prayed about that this could be addressing, but they aren't for this thread.

It's basically saying what good is it for someone to have everything in life but not have God's love. There's a toby mac song related to this
