we all hate ocd. i have some of the worst kinds. if you need prayer, help, or want to talk to others with it, speak here. you don't have to say your specific problems or anything though.

OCD pretty much can run a person's life. It sucks.

I have it and so does my dad.

Good idea for like a support group, though I don't know if this is the right place.

interesting idea. we'll just have to be careful, I know I was talking about my OCD in another thread and it actually set me off a bit. I'm mostly free from it tho, and I don't like to dwell or I'll go off on it

but definately could work, not saying it won't!

I have it very minor. Everything has to be straight for me. Like at restaurant all the forks and stuff on the table have to be in the right place.....also pictures have to hang on the wall evenly or it will drive me crazy.

I`ve had OCD very badly before; it was the main reason I was hospitalised last year. I have it under control now though. smile.gif

I think it runs in my family though. My father has it pretty bad and my sister used to. Genetic thing perhaps.

we can pray for you. when you get a bad thought, do your ride. what i mean by this is:

rename as ocd
insist you are incontrol
defy rituals
enjoy

keep doing this till anxiety decreases

I have it right now, though my OCD is a good thing in my life, I find.
Mine is my obsession with locking my front foor when I go out. I swear I lock it, I go out, and I test the doorknob at least five times to be certain if it's locked. Then I walk to my bus stop, though sometimes I panic and have to run back home to go check again. v.v

It's good in the way that I'll never forget to lock my doors, that I know. Bad in a way that I'm constantly anxious about it... v.v Like right now. I know that as soon as I'm done this, I'll run downstairs to go check again... v.v'

this is a common ocd burglar obsession. i had it, and my doctor made me keep my doors unlocked. the fear is irrational unless you live in a crime filled neighborhood smile.gif in that case, its not ocd, its common sense. but if you are in a good place, just leave em unlocked, and deep breath while the anxiety goes down.

I don't have OCD but I obsess over things.
Everything has to be straight.
Everything has to be in the RIGHT place.
Or I freak out.
But that's not OCD.

My friend has something somewhat similar to OCD, she has OCPD.
Instead of Obsessive Compulsive disorder she has Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder.
They're different. The personality disorder is where you pretty much have the same symptoms of OCD but you don't do the rituals. You don't do the counting or tapping or number things.

... I don't think I could. And my neighborhood's like the quietest thing in the world, nothing EVER happens. v.v But I can't shake it... I mean, I'm always freaking out over it. sad.gif How in the world did you just get over the fear, Rave?

I believe I have OCD. I have never been diagnosed as such by the doctor or anything though.

When my little niece hands me a Barbie doll of something and says "Look Joseph" I might twist the head around, but then I have to twist it back to where it was. tongue.gif

And I also freak out sometimes over silly things. I will suddenly get a thought like "Oh, what if I pass out from hearing someone breathing." But, God is enabling me to handle it. biggrin.gif

"Compulsive" in the medical sense means that you get an impulse that you have a lot of trouble denying, no matter how troublesome it is to do it or how much it upsets you. (Denying the compulsion results in anxiety and sometimes total raving terror.) "Obsessive" means that something will not leave your mind.

Obsessive-compulsive is, in basic terms, when you have obsessions that trigger compulsions. For instance, if you have an obsessive fear of burglary, you might check the locks a hundred times just to make sure they're secure. (No matter how many times you do it or how clearly you remember doing it, you may never be positive that you really locked it.) Or people with an obsessive fear of germs may wash their hands a thousand times until they're rough and raw, or desperately avoid anything that seems contaminated.

I think I am OCD. My obsession is that someone or something harmful is hiding somewhere in the house. The compulsion is then to check every nook and cranny a thousand times. This keeps me up at night even when I'm exhausted.

I also often have a fear that some crazy person is watching every move I make, and I have to go through certain motions or do certain things to keep this hypothetical crazy person at bay. Then there's straightening/arranging things, and more recently, the germ fear that I described above which results in very frequent use of hand sanitizer.

Basically, unless you exercise so much that it's becoming troublesome, and you feel dread at the notion of cutting down on it, then it's probably not OCD.

Ever see the TV show or read the books on Monk? (Obsessive Compulsive Detective) It's enough to make you paranoid that you are, in some way, OCD.... actually, I do have slight OCD tendencies, but I can ignore them when I'm with other people.
