Hey guys!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, i have severe OCD too. It's always a different thing though. like i get obsessed with one thing and then it goes away after like 2 months, and then i find something else to be obsessed with.

Memories: locking the door thing, i totally had the same problem. I would check it a million times, go out, then worry that it's still not locked, or that i somehow unlocked it while checking it, so i would stand for another ten minutes checking it again. and then i would go to school and worry all day that it's not locked and that someone will go in, steal all of our possessions, and it will all be my fault. but anyway,i don't worry about it now.
i told this to my psychologyst, and she said that if i locked the door, then it should already be locked and checking is just something extra i do to. checking one time is more than enough. if i had just locked the door, there is already a 99 percent chance that it locked. the checking is just to make it 100. i never thought about it that way. anyway, i decided that i am not crazy and so i started to only check once after locking the door. i don't have that problem anymore. oh, i have been doing this for some time and still no burglars.

people i need your help...
as i've said, i am OCD and now I have new things to worry about. i love going to the beach, but i don't like swimming where all the other people are swimming because...it's crowded and people pee. i like to go a little further away cuz the water is cleaner. but i know people fish there. so last night, even though there were no fishermen, i went in to swim and then i thought, " what if i get bitten by a fish? It will probably bite me on the nose, and then i will be deformed and noone will want to marry me."but then i remembered that i could always ge t a nose job, so that's okay. but then i remember the movie jaws, and i was like "but what if i get eaten by a shark?" i know it's kind of silly, but i was swimming really close to the shore becuase i was afraid to go in any deeper, but i was still terrified and i couldn't even enjoy myself. i kept picturing a shark swimming up to me and tearing my flesh. it was really scary so i got out of the water after like five minutes. I don't know what to do though. I like swimming , but at the same time, i am really scared. Any advice? thanks.

and also... outside of my house we have this big tree, and it gives shade,so i always loved to sit under it and read. but then one day i was sitting and i thought " what if a tree branch breaks off and falls on me?" now i am terrified of sitting under trees, so i sit out in the sun and get sunburned...great. i am seriously terrified though....i can't even focus on my reading because i imagine a branch falling. i am so scared..what should i do? i mean i can't enjoy the things i enjoyed before, but there is always a chance that a shark will eat me, or a tree branch will fall on me. i mean i am not really afraid of death(becouse i know i'll go to Heaven) but i'm just afraid of the pain of being eaten alive or the tree branch crashing against my skull. i know i'mcrazy but i can't help it. Please guys, i need your help.

I have minor to major ocd tendencies...
I can't eat food that has been touched by other people, and the part of the food that are touching. I always have my hand sanitizer on me, and will use it frequently. Things need to be nice and in order (like my crayons are all in 'rainbow order' PM me and I will explain that one to you). All my movies, CD's, books, everything are in alphabetical order. Anytime I see something not straight or lined up correctly, I have the urge to straighten it and such. I wont swim in lakes/ponds... ect. ect.

I know that my compulsions are irrational, but really, I don't care. They don't rule my life, I can control them. And until they begin to control things, I wont let them bother me.

MONK IS MY HERO. He makes me happy. :]

if you are in a safe area, do leave your doors unlocked for a night, and see there is nothing to be worried about. my pshycologist said that. and for the food thing, eat the food! see that there is no danger. exposure is the best way to fight ocd. it's great many of you have it under control, and i thank God. unfortunately, there are many who don't, and you guys are the examples for them

That's not OCD, that's fear.

You're overly cautious, not crazy. :]
If you're that scared of a tree branch falling on you, then use an umbrella on the porch or something for shade.

You probably don't.
Do you do rituals? Checking something once or twice is normal.
I'm talking about do you open and close the fridge door over 25 times just to make sure it's closed "right" or "perfect"
Do you panic if somebody is eating a potato chip upside down or "the wrong way"?

Most OCD sufferers have obsession with perfection and things being done the "right" way.
If something is out of place, they don't simply go fix it, most of them freak out, have episodes, mental breakdowns, panic attacks, think something bad is going to happen if that soda can isn't moved two inches to the left...

Expose yourself to what your afraid of. If there is a lose branch, don't step under it, but don't lock your door at night, and swim in the ocean. just like everyone

If her family noticed an obsession, doing rituals in attempt to fight it, and if its getting in the way of daily life, a doctor should be seen. Getting "roped in", in this case only requires seeing a doctor.

Never advise someone to keep their door unlocked at night and when they go out unless you know these people and can tell from their area, living situation, what the parents want... etc.

Cassie: be really careful with deodarant. if your deodorant contains aluminum, do not use it. if it contains propylene glycol, still don't use too much. these ingredients, especially aluminum, are cancer-causing, so unless you really have to, don't use doedorant, or look for deodorant that does not contain these ingredients. i don't mean to scare you, but i'm serious. check ou my post on the womens forum "what's in your make-up?" i think it should be second or third page of the forum.

I have the OCD tendency of avoiding cracks in the sidewalk or similar things. Or do you call that OCD? Anyway, I sort of totally broke that habit today, walking with total disregard to cracks. It was hard and I kept catching myself purposefully avoiding cracks. I think a small part of my mind hurt. O_o

Next up: Not obsessing over whether my pastor's head passes completely over that banner/light behind him (from my perspective) while he is delivering the sermon. (Now I just fix that by looking down and choosing to be blissfully ignorant.)

I cant touch anything without washing my hand either right after or very soon after. I will freak out in my mind until my hands are washed.

It has pretty much ruined my hands in the sense that I have very dry skin now, and bleed often

I need help!

okay, so i'm so nervous i can barely breathe. sometimes my OCD is under control, but now it's really bad.

i'm always worried that something bad might happen to someone because of me. im obsessive about it. like for instance, i was walking in the park today, and it was a picnic area, and there were lots of trees and i just thought "maybe i should ask my friends to come with me next time, we could have a barbecue" and then i thought "oh no, what if a tree branch falls on one of my friends and they die. it will be all my fault because i was the one who suggested it."

or another example is like, if i go jet skiing i would be afraid to ask my friends to come with me, because if something happens to them i feel like it would be my fault. like if my ski hits a rock, and i flip over, and get runover with the jet ski, then i don't care so much, but if something like that happens to someone else i would die of guilt because i would feel like it's all my fault because it was my idea in the first place.

or if i give someone diet advice, i'm always afraid that i might explain it wrong or something, and the person will eat something wrong and die.

as you can see, i'm pretty paranoid. i know that my worries are probably silly but some of them are likely to happen. but i'm just so scared that something bad might happen to someone because of me. like if i don't warn people of the things i know are dangerous or something, i feel so guilty. i feel like i have to tell everyone "don't sit under that tree, don't dye your hair, don't use that make-up, don't eat that." i just feel so responsible for everyone. sorry for the long post, but i'm just really depressed.

Thanks for your reply jadeyxx.

My OCD is back. now it's something else. i've started having these fears, that when i pray i'm afraid to repeat the same prayer request twice because i'm afraid that the second time might cancel out the first time. so i either try to pray about something once or and odd number of times. This really bothers me.please help!
