Yeah. I had two piercings in each ear. Then, they got all icky (thanks alot earrings!) and closed up.

I'd like to get them re-done,but I heard it's painful...and I've had issues with cysts in the past.

Should I go a second time,or just stick with the one hole dealio I have now?

I've had ear piercings redone.
Granted it was just the first holes, but they closed up because I didn't take care of them correctly, and so I had them redone a few years later.
I can't remember them hurting any more than they did the first time.

Ehh, and those cysts (if I'm on the same page as you, they're just those little lumps you get in the earlobes, right?) aren't fun, but they haven't really given my piercings that much trouble.
I get them in a different spot than where my piercings are, so they don't really bother them.

It should be fine getting them re done, provided that you don't have very much scar tissue (hard lumps of this could make the piercing difficult).

If/when you do get your ears re pierced, make sure you look after them very well. Avoid wearing metals which could irritate your ears. Stick with stainless steel or titanium. Clean them well twice a day. Remove gunk.

It shouldn't be too much more painful than any other lobe piercing, really, but you can never know. I very much doubt it will be so painful that it won't be worth it. I mean the pain lasts for... a few seconds? Also, get them redone with a needle. It'll likely be far easier and 'cleaner' to pierce, especially if there's a small bit of scar tissue there. And you'll get better jewellery for the healing process smile.gif.

I have one piercing which I intend to get redone in my lobe, too. Just haven't got round to it yet tongue.gif.

Titanium is what messed me up in the first place. O.o (wore those studs in my first holes with the same results).

With a needle? That sounds really..erm..painful.

Yes,cysts are those hard things. One time I was cleaning one of my second holes(granted.there was no earring in it),and the cyst actually came out. yucky.gif

You sure it was the metal causing the problem? Needles might sound worse, but they're actually not. It's much better to make a piercing with something really sharp than to push a relatively blunt stud through your earlobe.

I'm pretty sure. My first set of holes was pierced with hypoallergenic gold. The second time it was titanium...and didn't end so well.

My skin is weird. blink.gif

So...where does one go to get ears done with a needle? My mom would die before I went in a tattoo parlor.

Tattoo parlors are actually generally a lot safer than beauty parlors for getting piercings because they actually know what they are doing. I would suggest looking up "nice looking" ones in your neighborhood. You can show your mother the endless research that says that pericing guns really aren't safe, nor are the people who use them most of the time if you think that would assauge her prejudice towards a tattoo parlor.

I don't know what kind of metal you wouldn't be allergic to unfortunately. You could go to a doctor and get an allergy test since it is possible that you are allergic to all metals.

hypo allergenic. I got a second piercing once and the same thing happened to me, minus the cyst thing. I thought i'd get a staph infection. I'm tempted to get it done with hypo allergenic. I got it done with some stainless steel the first time and they had to grow up.

Uhhuh, true smile.gif. Do your research. Visit local piercing shops (they may do tattoos too) and do research. Ask what their safety precautions are and see if the place seems clean. When you go, watch them open a new needle, wear gloves, use a sharps bin etc. All these things sound pretty standard don't they? It amazes me how some shops will pierce you right in the shop itself. Maybe I can find some place in the mall. :3

Thanks for the advice.

When I was about six, my piercings closed. (I'd had my ears pierced since infancy and rarely wore earrings... surprise surprise...)
My mom took it upon herself to repierce my ears...
With little, blunt, gold stud earrings... cry.gif
It took like, an hour and my ears were completely red afterward
I've harbored a phobia of ear piercing ever since.

Sorry, irrelevant to the topic, but I felt compelled to share that little bit of trauma with the lot of ye. happy.gif
For the record, Icing (by Claires) is quite nice, if I remember correctly. They gave my sister a lolipop when she got her ears pierced. happy.gif

Getting it done at Claire's is asking for a blood borne infection. Before getting your ears re pierced I strongly suggest doing some research about the safety involved. As for the stigma about tattoo parlors, it isn't anything more than a stereo type, the majority of tattoo parlors I have been to while they may have people who look different they are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their profession. This is unlike the people who work at Claire's who have no idea what they are doing and use guns which cannot be sterilized properly. In fact Claire's isn't legally allowed to pierce ears where I live because of past problems with people getting Hep c from unsterilized studs. Even if you don't go to a tattoo parlor please for your own health go somewhere where they have actual trained professionals.

this is absolutely correct, you will 99 percent of the time get infections from using the gun method. tattoo shops are much cleaner and they use steril everything. shops have to meet strict standards of cleanliness and it's thier job to do what they do, they arent mall clerks, they care about the people that walk in and they want your business so they are going to care about your wellbeing. being a tattoo shop frequenter myself most of the poeple that go into shops are not bikers or gang members, i mean im a scrawny little girl and i hang out there. do a little research for your area and take a look at the shops that are around (some are nicer than others).

i would suggest getting stainless steel either captive bead or horseshoe, they are easier to clean than a stud (you dont have to worry about the backing getting all cheesey). and you can also look into getting specialized piercing cleaning stuff. most shops will carry like H2ocean and tattoo goo or some kind of steril soap. i personally use just some wound wash saline solution or castile soap with tea tree oil in it. and if you have any questions feel free to ask your piercist, and tip them!

I got mine done at claire's and got THE worst infection EVER. If I had been smart I would have taken them out. But I didn't, and I made it through. The infection lasted for over a year, though. It was painful, gross, and just plain annoying.

I want to get my cartilage pierced after I turn 18, and I'm going to Piercology (or however that's spelled). I really don't want to have to deal with Claire's again.

Oh, and I'm severely allergic to nickel, and the supposedly "sterling silver" earrings I bought from Claire's made my ears go crazy. So don't necessarily trust what they sell to you if you have allergies.

Do you mean a keloid? I had gotten one of them, but I had to get it surgically removed. It was a large, hard blob on the back of my ear. I named him and everything, but he was taken away.

Anyway, my peircings were all done at home (ears and nose), and I haven`t had any problems or infections besides the one with the keloid.

Not sure,Rave. I thought they were called cysts. It made my cartilage all hard in one spot, right around the piercing.

I would say skip claires, either a nice tatoo place or a doctors office.... A lot of times people will get little kids done at a doctors office but even if your older their needles are clean which you just can't gurentee at a place like claires. Of course if your getting it in some weird place tattoo parlor would be a better bet.

I got my ears pierced in a pediatricians office and never had any problems.
