Jag- it takes millions of years for a water bottle to break down. so yeah in a million years the water will seep through. :/

and what happens when we run out of space?[/b]
We won't. As more people come around, then there will be more economic viability to use the space we have more efficiently. That's how it's always been in history.

No as more people come around there will be less resources. We do not need more people as long as we have new minds. And thats fine if we keep the birth rate at no more than 2 kids per family the new generation will add new ideas and new inventions, etc. We dont need more people.

You're thinking way way way into the future.
Resources for the most part are hard to run out of because most of them grow. Animals reproduce, crops grow, water rains down.

So in a way, you're right.
But that would be in thousands if not millions of years from now.
And that would happen because people would increase to the point that they would move into the space we need to grow crops and animals.

But as long as people keep dying, then it's going to take a long time to reach that point.

The problem is people are not dying. We have chemotherapy for cancer, transplants, heart pacers, etc. People are living longer with not necessarily better lives they are living in pain still just to be alive. Like i said either more people need to die or we can stop having so many kids. I dont blame anyone who wants to live longer but its one of the consequences that has to happen if people want to keep reproducing. And more and more people are being born than are dying to the point that our population may triple in the next hundred years. how much more space is going to be available? With science now people can live longer with diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc. Life expectancy in the USA is like 75-80 years old. In overpopulated places like China and India its only 55 or 60. I guess as more people are populating the planet God wil have to decrease our life expectancy to make more room or else create another natural catastrphe. I sure wouldnt want it happening to me.

I don't think God creates natural disasters as warnings against there being too much population; there have always been natural disasters. It's just as there are more people, more people will die, but only proportionately of the earth's population. So, instead of only 1,000 people being affected, perhaps 1,000,000, but still the same percentage of the world's population. See?

I believe that science will offer solutions not only for people to live longer, but for more people to live on less. That's what we've been doing since the beginning of time. At first it took a whole family working a field to feed that family, now it takes one man with a tractor to feed hundreds of families. See?

Why do people need to die? Why comdemn them? for your own sake so that you can live? The wrold population can fit inside cities like Jacksonville, Florida. You are only seeing to options for a possible solution........ when there are many, many more. In another century we may be flying across space at the speed of light, found ways to altar atomic particals. You cannot comdemn people just for the surefire thing that your going to live. Yeah, you can live in fear your whole life that there is a chance that the world will become over populated or "run out" materials.

Yes, but as the world population goes up, then the economic necessity and opportunity to research and produce more efficient uses of those resources, and development into other energy sources (such as fusion) become only possible by higher populations. If the populations were to remain as they are, or go down, then the ability to do such research and production of more efficient means becomes less and less likely as the economic possibility to do such goes into a crunch because the existing technologies will not be rolled over in any necessary way.

As the population goes up, the ability to use what little space and resources we have goes up exponentially. So, while an acre may be enough to feed 3 families for a year (just guesstimating, these are just sketches) now, as world population goes up, then the economic necessity and possibility would happen in such a way that it would be possible to feed 5 families a year on a single acre.[/b]
That sounds all good and possible, but it just doesn't make any sense. Eventually space is used up, no matter how many technologies or research you have. Why would you want to live on a crowded planet anyway? (But that's besides the point)

I suggest you get into some research....on both sides of the issue. I don't know if you have yet or not, but I highly highly reccommend it. Our world only holds so much space and resources.

I believe that science will offer solutions not only for people to live longer, but for more people to live on less. That's what we've been doing since the beginning of time. At first it took a whole family working a field to feed that family, now it takes one man with a tractor to feed hundreds of families. See?[/b]
We not only have to think of food sources, we also have to think of the wildlife and recreation. And I don't know about you, but I don't want to live life in a crowded city living as long as my years hold out...I just want to live. I don't care if you call me selfish for wanting a planet that still has billions of trees, open spaces, miles of pure mountains and fields--it's not about "not letting others experience life"--but I think that we have to watch our population.

I'm trying to be down-to-earth. Really, people, it's okay to be scared about our growing population. We just have to watch it is all.

The world's population could double, and then double again, and we'd still have many many many many acres of forest. Have you ever been to the Russian steppes? Seriously, just take a three day train ride from one side of Russia to the other and you would find it hard to believe that we're going to run out of resources; the only thing that matters is how those resources are used. More people can get more resources, and more people would have more reason to use those resources efficiently as opposed to easily.

(I've done a bit of research, and been less than impressed with those who say we're going to be overpopulated anytime soon)
