This has been in my mind for awhile, Does God desire for us to use so much of our time on our ''education''?
to me education means to know how to read, write, know basic math, history, and science. Honestly, it seems that futher education such as Algebra is uneccesary and futile. Of course, I want to finish high school and later go on to college but i just want to know if that's what God desires for me. I want to live a holy and Godly life and sometimes my mind wonders if i should use such of an amount of my time in school. Its like the alternative of not going to school would be going out and spreading the message of Christ into the world and saving souls. Can anyone explain to me how we can Glorify God with our education? while not living for the world or the things in it, thanks.

God wants us to live a happy life in the way we want to live it. If you believe following a certain path will make you happy while still being able to live the life of a disciple of God then go for it. I can definitely agree that Algebra is very useless to me, but to others it is vital. Have a baseline for education is always a good thing and can benefit us in life. School also serves the purpose of social interaction(with some people forced) and basic studying skills.

We can glorify God through our education in many ways. Spreading the word through educational establishments or even the jobs that are obtained because of the education achieved is one way. Another way is being able to help others using either the education learned or the money provided from the education. Not everyone is able to reach a high level of education and feel they are just not meant to, it does not make them any less of a person or disciple.

To be honest no matter what you do a chance will always present itself to glorify God. There is nothing wrong with being able to glorify God, help others, enjoy the path chosen and the benefits that go with it at the same time.

Anyway you don't have to take my word or anyone elses, investigate it for yourself or talk to professionals who have been able to glorify God through education without having materialistic stuff overshadow God.

Edit: P.S. without a certain level of education the bible would not be readily available in almost every language in the world.

People educated in different fields can reach to more people in more different walks of life. Pie is right, God doesn't want us to be stupid. God gave us brains capable of extraordinary things for a reason. You need people educated enough to teach other people the basics, you need people to teach the Bible, you need people that know enough to keep our world running. What if every Christian ignored their call to be a doctor because they didn't feel that there was any point to schooling?

As a missionary kid, I can tell you from experience that education is vital. Sure, you can quit school and go out on your own. Most likely you'll struggle. Mission organizations, for the most part, require a degree, or at least some further education. I think that education is the best way to prepare yourself for the mission field, along with tangible experience. And yes, Algebra actually is a good skill to hone. It's not useless.

God gave you a brain. Use it to the FULLEST extent.

I'm a typical college kid, except that I think way too much.

My favorite book is Wuthering Heights. I'm sort of obsessed with it.
Also, I look like I'm 14. However, I'm not, so don't let that deceive you.

You could quit school and go out and spread the message of Christ... Or you could stay in school and spread the message of Christ and be an example for the kids in your school. During your school years, I would say that that is probably where God would want you to be; in your school spreading the message of Christ throughout your school by your actions. Just by making a few good choices you could be a pretty big influence on people, they will see that you are different and they will probably want to know why.

I think anyone in school has probably had this same thought.. I know I have before..school can get old and it can make you wonder where exactly is it taking you. Personally, I think that God gave us wonderful, intelligent minds for us to mold and use for his good will. Think of it this way, instead of wondering what you could be doing for God instead of going to school, think of ways to use your education to glorify God at the same time. Your education could be the key to a job or another school that puts you where God wants you. He is known for working in mysterious ways, even through algebra

God doesn't want us to do useless things, but He wants us to persevere. Sure algebra is a big stumbling block to me with my learning disabilities, and God most likely won't use that in His plan for me, but I am sure that He wants me to stay in school as long as I have to for the requirements, then focus on what I need to do in college so I can follow His purpose.
