First, I'm sorry you found those messages. No-one should be reminded that they family members probably (or in your case, definitely) masturbate. Masturbation is a sin, and the fact that it is a normal hormonal/puberty thing does not make it less of a sin.

Yes, it is sinful. God gave you that part for excretory means and for your future wife; and when you do it are you thinking about God or even something trivial like what you're having for dinner, or on top of misusing your body are you also lusting? Now, God's not a cosmic-killjoy; who was it who designed us with those nerves and sex itself? He CLEARLY wants us to have fun, but only when it's good for us. Masturbation can be damaging. It ruins your ability to feel your first "big moment" with your spouse, it can damage those parts for males and females, it can develop really twisted "fetishes" (every time you orgasm to something your mind writes it as the "norm" for sex) that can make you feel dissatisfied with your future spouse or really dirty, and whether male or female: It can cause infection. God wants us to have fun, but trying to force a beautiful and complete physical union between yourself and your hand rather than someone you love with all of your heart, can be harmful in many ways. Masturbation is definitely a sin

I am not so sure it is a sin. However, I do believe it is an immature defense mechanism against the reality that one is not sexually active with another human being. The danger is that sex acts are almost always connected to relational aspects. In that sense, masturbation tends to be an illusory form of alienated intimacy that is probably not fruitful for our psychic life. Masturbation accomplishes nothing except a brief respite to our libidinal drive. In the long run, though, it appears to make the experience of alienation all the more dreadful.

There's no scripture that directly imposes restrictions on masturbation. However, since it usually accompanies many other 'regulated' activities like lust I think there are valid grounds to avoid it.

Mike I have to disagree with a few of your statements as they're factually incorrect:

Masturbation can be damaging

Damaging how? Emotionally and Mentally? Maybe. Spiritually? Probably. Physically? Definitely not.

1) I don't think that it ruins any first 'big moment'. Masturbation is nothing like sex, doesn't feel the same as the act of sex and can never replicate or come close to how intercourse feels.

2) It doesn't damage anything in males or females.

3) It definitely does not cause infection. I have no doubt that 'executed' in an unclean way can result in an infection, but masturbation in and of its self is not physically harming and will never, ever, lead to infections, diseases, etc...

I know this isn't a debate and I'm not trying to start one, but I felt that it was important to be factually clear. Opinions aside, scientific and health related evidence for things like infections and other health and physical is really the point of truth in this.

so just being clear... we are not sure if it is or not i did my research and found both sides. if it is a sin i will try to stop by asking God for guidance. If it isnt can i continue.

Time magazine recently ran a piece on the correlation between masturbation/pornography and erectile dysfunction, so it would seem damaging in at least that way.

My thoughts expressed in different words.

Pal, forget sin for a moment. Think about your life time. The human being has something like 40.5 million minutes in their life that they're never getting back once they're gone. By the age of twenty you will have spent around 10.5 million minutes. There are better things to do with your time than masturbate. Further, speaking as someone who is currently struggling with that and has been for several years, it doesn't help anything. The chemicals in the body associated with sexual arousal, your libido - appetite for sexual pleasure, is produced more when you're sexually active, ergo, when you masturbate, you don't satiate the desire, you make it bigger.

It may sound like prudish Christian fiddle-faddle, but it'll devour you.

Back to the sin. If it wastes the life that God has given you, then you sin. Masturbation does nothing for you. Therefore, it's a sin.

Though I believe it to be sinful, let's assume for a moment that it's not. It's still massively harmful to your spiritual lifestyle. It's very difficult to live a Christian life with a lust filled mind set. We cannot expect to have a lust filled mind set and a spirit filled mind set simultaneously.

One does not stop having sexual attraction or lusting after others merely because they do not masturbate.

Masturbation is a sin because it's a fruit of lust. You want to have sex and thats normal and it's not a sin to want that, but when you start to want to have sex you start thinking sinful thoughts and maybe even worse if you are not fully in faith that you have a new heart of flesh, that sin has no more dominion over you etc. Actually, because we don't fully have faith in what God has said we don't experiance what is written in the scriptures. The word of God must become flesh in the believer and that the Lord must cleanse your heart from lusts like this and desires that does not please Him. Remember the prophets prayer: Create in me a clean heart (Psalm). You actually have to do all of this, start to memorize bible verses so when lusts come or whatever you start to say the bible verses to yourself, over and over and over and over and over again. Always have the word of God in your mind. This is called repentance. To think differently. Remember, the carnal mind is emnity against God. Take time to sit down and read Romans 6:4, 6:6, 6:11, 6:14, Romans 8:2 and Ezekiel 36: 25-29 over and over again until you experiance a transformation. The scriptures teach: that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God''. It is also written that Gods word is spirit and life. If you do this, you will be transformed.

If you are masturbating and looking at pornography then you must find out the reason why you are doing it. Whats behind it? Is it that you need comfort? Do you do it when you are stressed? Don't worry, God will be there for you if you can't find out. You also have to be careful on what your mind is at. Is it at the things of God or the things of the flesh? (Romans 8:5-6). Read these two bible verses. Start or continiue to have the word of God in your mind, say the verses to yourself in your mind and have also your eyes fixed on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). The danger of not doing this is what is written in the scriptures: But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has concieved, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. (James 1:14-15, NASB). I finish by quoting what is written in Galatians 5:16: But I say, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh (NASB).

Blessings according to the will of the Father to you all in Jesus name.

I'm no minister, NOT AT ALL, but I can tell you that God is the only way.

Understand that satan won't let up, especially during these final days of the world.

I hope I helped. I'll be praying for you and your brother.

God bless you bro. :)

Some of the previous posts were quite direct and clear. There's a person i know, you wouldnt suspect this person doing 'sinful stuff" like this, even part of the worship team. But when God showed  how wrong what was being done was, such remorse and piercing pain the person had to go through.

Here's 1 from Prov. 29.1: If you get more stubborn every time you are corrected, one day you will be crushed and never recover.

I know you're not at that point, but there are many young people who disregard warnings, thinking Emmanuel, God is with me. Before they know it, theyve fallen and can't rise, or rising is a lot harder.

Nah I think I've reached that point. I've fallen so many times in the past year and a half. My addiction has literally destroyed my life. Not just my relationship with God, but my relationships with everyone else in my life. I've been through a lot of pain and remorse. There are times when I feel like it's impossible for me to ever overcome this addiction. I still sin, and I felt that way on Sunday when I sinned. I felt helpless.

It IS possible to overcome an addiction. Prayerfully seek people to associate with, places to go, and activities to put you away from where you may be feeling trapped. This easier said than done, but not impossible. That is why we call on the name of the Lord, we do all need Him so, esp. now.

To make things simple:

Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The word of God is absolute

I would say it's sinful although I "try" to stay away from it.

I pray every now and then about it, to not be tempted because it's a form of lust, and

having lustful thoughts or actions is a sin. I personally, look at it as comitting adultery against my future husband (Who I know is out there.) ha ha.

Because you're comitting adultery within your heart even if you're not having the physical part of it. It's the oral part and I do think it's jus as bad.

So, I just ask for wisdom not to do it or think about it.

To answer your question. Yes, it is a sin. Although, some may say it isn't.

You can always pray and ask for forgiveness if you're really sincere about it.

I have struggled with it as well. As well is that it the temptation keeps coming back. Some people say masturbation is a way of temporarily satisfying your libido but it just enhances it in the long run. I originally thought if I do it without lust it is not a sin ,but it doesn't work like that. God created sex to be in  the context of marriage. Not for you to be fapping in the corner over thing purely created for lust.

Finally, you should use your body to glorify God as it says in Corinthians.

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV)

I am 15 right now and used to masturbate every single day. But ever since I gave my life to Jesus I felt the Holy Spirit pulling at my sleeve telling me everything that I must not do, like masturbation. Its a hard process to stop, and at first it seems hopeless. But Ill tell you that you will feel spiritual purity. Ending this habit is a step in killing the flesh.

I love this, Marvin :) It's awesome that you're listening to the Holy Spirit. Refraining from masturbation is not only good for the soul, but once you've gotten out of it, most people feel more confident and just generally happier. Plus they have a whole lot more free time lol
