ComedyMusicHistory
What is your political ideology? This is just a fun poll. You can just vote in the poll or you can go into a lot of detail about your political views. It's all up to you. I want us to all be on the same page as to what's considered Conservative or Liberal. I realize what's considered Right/Conservative and Left/Liberal, especially when we're talking fiscally, varies a lot by place, but let's use the American definitions. Because it compasses a greater variety of views. For instance in the US wanting universal healthcare for everyone, no private doctors for anyone or almost anyone, is a Progressive Liberal or farther Left view. And wanting guns to only be legal for hunting, sporting, target shooting, etc. is Progressive Liberal or Socialist view by US standards. I voted Libertarian, but I don't know if that exactly describes my views as much as it used to. Well, I still am very Libertarian when it comes to the federal government. But I do think state governments need to play a bigger role than I used to think they should. For instance they need to regulate things like tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, addictive and commonly abused prescriptions, etc. And there are other ways too. I think people legally should be able to do what they want as long as they're not hurting anyone else, but I'm not one those "Anything Goes Libertarians" who doesn't believe in morals. I wish we had better morals in society (like maybe it's not a good idea to get drunk and have a one night stand every weekend). But the law has little to do with what is considered socially acceptable morally. Edited October 13, 2014 by ComedyMusicHistory
ComedyMusicHistory
I accidentally didn't make the votes public on the other one. So if you would vote on this poll as well it would be appreciated.

Ananas
I like guns but also want healthcare reform, my stereotypes are broken.
ComedyMusicHistory
I like guns but also want healthcare reform, my stereotypes are broken. I know what it can feel like to have conflicting or "conflicting" views. Those suggestions were more for non-American members who might think of Conservative and Liberal differently than we do. Nicene Nerd
I think this poll may turn out to have the most predictable results in CTF history.

ComedyMusicHistory
I know a way to make this less predictable. To the more than half that have voted so far that chose Moderate Conservative, how would you define Moderate Conservative and Very Conservative? And why did you pick Moderate Conservative?
Nicene Nerd
I choose "Moderate Conservative" because it sounds in practice the closest option to a more classical, less American form of conservatism. I imagine mostly rednecks, Birthers, and "Obama is the Antichrist" people when I see "Very Conservative."

C. Ingram
So, I've gotten really moderate and vague in my political views. Moderate liberal like Benjamin Spock, Gandhi, and MLK Jr.
Nicene Nerd
So, I've gotten really moderate and vague in my political views. Moderate liberal like Benjamin Spock, Gandhi, and MLK Jr. What happened to my beloved anarchist?
C. Ingram
I'm still more or less anarchist, but I'm struggling with understanding how the transition from government to everyone-leads-utopia works and moderate liberalism kind of combines government and leaderless utopia so that transition isn't present. But I haven't read or done anything with political theory in a while so everything is foggy.
Cato
I am also a libertarian (or classical liberal, I think these are practically identical). Rather than the view that libertarians do not enforce morals, I arrive at libertarianism through the nonaggression axiom as a moral stance that all men -including the government composed of men, must adhere to. Also, predictable poll results are predictable. Edited October 14, 2014 by afriendlyatheist

kb5462
I put Other, simply because I don't feel like I fit within the US spectrum depicted here particularly well (i.e. I think this spectrum is too one-dimensional). I am a moderate, left-leaning liberal in the UK. I don't card carry, but the concept of the Liberal Democrat party probably best describes my views, blended with some of Labour. I am pro-socialised healthcare, pro-taxation, pro-EU, pro-big government etc. Probably a right wing American's worst nightmare

ComedyMusicHistory
Merged the polls. Thank you! I put Other, simply because I don't feel like I fit within the US spectrum depicted here particularly well I understand what you mean. I was trying to make the poll as easy to use for non-American members, but I know there are still differences. (i.e. I think this spectrum is too one-dimensional). That's how politics in the US tend to be. Unfortunately. In local and state government you'll have more variation. But in the national government there's a very tight script as to how Republicans and Democrats are supposed to vote (usually do). Reactionary monarchist, at your service. High five ! And vive le roy ! <3+ How are monarchists supposed to think on fiscal, domestic, and social issues? Does it vary? Or is it what the king or queen and parliament want? This is one view I'm not really too familiar with.
